DescriptionGAI is seeking a Transmission Engineering Manager 1 to join our Power Delivery team in the role of Program Engineering Manager. This position will report to the Transmission Line Group Manager in our Power Delivery Engineering Business Sector in GAI's Power Business Unit. Required skills include transmission line design experience, critical thinking, problem solving, organization, team-focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems.Qualified candidates are eligible for remote work.This position combines technical leadership in transmission line design with advisory responsibilities to support a program through all phases of project development and execution. The ideal candidate will have experience in high-voltage transmission line engineering and design, and strong problem-solving skills. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills. This position will work collaboratively with the Manager of Project Management for this program. The Transmission Engineering Manager 1 will have 12+ reports and be responsible for $5,000,000+ annual revenue.CompetencyKnowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.Knowledge of project management skills and uses of intermediate practices to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy. May serve as PM Coach to Task Managers and other PMs.Job Responsibilities:Complete day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:Preparation of Specification PackagesPreparation of Structural and Fabrication DrawingsDesign and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TowerDesign and Analysis of foundations.Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes, standards, and specifications.Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.Coordination and development of permits for Railroads, Roadways, and Environmental Crossings.Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.Must demonstrate attention to detail.Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.Implements effective engineering methods, provides technical guidance, and acts as a resource for engineers and designers.Directly manages projects with no limit to the number or value of individual projects managed.Coordinates and develops proposed scope, schedule, and fee for projects managed.Assist in quality control and quality assurance of active projects, providing peer and final reviews and training of engineers and designers in quality control processes.Establish and refine engineering processes and standard operating procedures that enhance team performance, alignment, and delivery predictability.General CharacteristicsApplies thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering related to the variety of aspects affecting their organization.Applies progressively acquired expertise to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting their practice and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis of projects.Leads projects of moderate complexity and scope or leads a major project.Analyzes complex problems across specialty areas appropriate to the practice of engineering.Analyzes ethical dilemmas to determine appropriate courses of action.Minimum Years of Experience12+ Years of ExperienceEducationB.S. or M.S. License, reciprocity in multiple states.Technical ResponsibilitiesFrequently serves as the technical advisor in the application of advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area.Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the practice for the purpose of recommending changes in projects or applications.Frequently develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.Values and analyzes sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective.Project and Task ManagementOversees a project team of engineers and technicians.Plans, schedules, and coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects.Analyzes project management plans for complex engineering projects.Understands project delivery uncertainties and uses risk management principles to address them.Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.Management ResponsibilitySupervises a staff of engineers and technicians.Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.Mentors senior staff.Integrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering and fosters creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff.Communication SkillsApplies principles of formal strategic and persuasive communications.Represents their area of specialty within the organization and liaises with related individuals and organizations.Routinely interacts with organizational leaders, clients, officials, contractors, and others.Integrates concepts of effective teamwork and leadershipPhysical Requirements:Ability to work in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and rugged terrain. Exposure to active construction sites.Capable of walking, hiking, or standing for extended periods during field and site visits.Must be able to lift and carry tools, equipment, technical samples, documents, and other materials weighing up to 40-50 pounds.Frequent bending, crouching, and climbing may be required during fieldwork and sample collection.Ability to safely operate and wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as helmets, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and boots as required by site safety protocols.Visual acuity and manual dexterity to handle technical tools, read maps and instruments, observe site conditions, and document findings accurately.Comfortable working in remote or isolated locations, sometimes for extended durations.Comfortable working in confined spaces and/or at heights, as required by specific project sites.May require driving long distances to field sites and operating vehicles on unpaved or uneven roads.Why GAI?GAI offers skilled professionals like you an exceptional place to work, grow, lead, and achieve.
