Junior Web Developer

*Overview* NewTechWood is seeking a motivated Junior Web Developer to join our team and work alongside our marketing and development teams. This role supports a growing portfolio of internal and customer-facing web properties, including our main website, B2B relationship portal, e-commerce brand sites, and new web platforms we will be launching over the next few months. This is a hands-on, growth-oriented position built for someone early in their development career. You will start with front-end and content-focused work — visual updates, responsive layout fixes, and site maintenance — and take on increasing ownership of features and full pages as you get comfortable with our stack. You will receive direct mentorship, code review, and steady exposure to real production systems used daily by our distributors, sales team, and contractor partners. The ideal candidate is curious, resourceful, and comfortable working through an unfamiliar problem. We care far more about strong fundamentals, clear thinking, and a demonstrated ability to build and finish projects than about years on a resume. *Responsibilities:* *Front-End Development & Site Maintenance * * Implement cosmetic and layout updates across our e-commerce and brand websites. * Build and adjust responsive page layouts that work cleanly across desktop, tablet, and mobile. * Write and maintain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to a consistent, readable standard. * Troubleshoot cross-browser and cross-device display issues. * Update site content, product imagery, and marketing pages as campaigns change. *WordPress Development* * Perform day-to-day WordPress site maintenance, including theme edits, plugin updates, and content changes. * Make targeted changes to custom themes and page templates. * Assist with WooCommerce product, catalog, and category updates. * Follow safe practices for working in a local development environment before changes reach production. *Project Support* * Contribute to the build-out and launch of web projects. * Support ongoing enhancements to our existing websites alongside the lead developer. * Break larger requests into small, testable pieces of work and deliver them on schedule. * Test your own work thoroughly before handing it off for review. *Collaboration & Communication* * Work with the lead developer through regular check-ins, code review, and pair work. * Coordinate with marketing, sales, and other teams to understand what a request actually needs to accomplish. * Document what you build so the next person — including future you — can pick it up. * Communicate progress and blockers early and clearly. *Growth & Learning* * Build fluency in our stack (WordPress, PHP, JavaScript) with mentorship and dedicated learning time. * Stay current on modern web development and responsive design practices. * Take on progressively larger and more independent projects as skills develop. * Perform additional duties as assigned. *Qualifications:* *Required* * Working knowledge of web development fundamentals: HTML, CSS, and how the browser renders a page. * Practical experience writing JavaScript, including DOM manipulation and event handling. * Hands-on experience with WordPress — themes, plugins, and the admin interface at minimum. * Understanding of responsive web design and mobile-first layout principles. * A portfolio of projects (personal, academic, freelance, or professional) that demonstrate problem solving, solid programming fundamentals, and proficiency in at least one or two languages. Please include links to live sites or repositories. * Comfort with browser developer tools for debugging. * Experience using AI-powered development workflows * Ability to research a problem independently, work through it methodically, and ask good questions when genuinely stuck. * Clear written and verbal communication, and comfort working with non-technical teammates. * Attention to detail and a willingness to test your own work before calling it finished. * Reliability in managing multiple small tasks and deadlines. *Preferred (Nice to Have)* * Familiarity with SEO best practices and on-page optimization. * Experience with SQL and relational databases. * Experience writing PHP, particularly within WordPress. * Exposure to WooCommerce or another e-commerce platform. * Familiarity with version control (Git) and basic command-line usage. * Basic design sensibility and familiarity with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or Canva. * Spanish language proficiency is welcome. *Education & Experience* A degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field; a completed development bootcamp; or equivalent self-taught experience backed by a demonstrable portfolio.
