Oncor (together with its subsidiaries) operates the largest transmission and distribution system in Texas, delivering power to nearly 4 million homes and businesses and operating more than 144,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines in Texas.Position SummaryAs a Director of Distribution Planning at Oncor, you’ll direct all Distribution Planning activities associated with the overall development of Oncor Electric Delivery’s load serving substations and the electric distribution system. This role is responsible for the development and execution of all policies, standards, and procedures required to maintain an evolving distribution development plan. The distribution plan requires safe, reliable operability, orderly, and cost-effective expansion of Oncor’s distribution system. This role is responsible for identifying and incorporating the impact of emerging trends, developing and advocating policy changes at relevant external organizations, and incorporating strategic decisions that support Oncor’s competitive objectives. This position leads an organizational culture that values continuous process improvement, high levels of communication, and employee development and career growth.Key ResponsibilitiesDirects Oncor’s Distribution system modeling and analyses of load serving substations and distribution systems and develops a strategic expansion of these systems in the Asset Plan. This comprises of all distribution planning data assumptions including distributed generation, oil/gas demand growth, commercial and industrial growth, as well as, emerging technologies such as electric vehicle adoption. These plans must maintain adequate flexibility, with priority rankings that are capable of efficiently responding to unexpected budget changes.Oversee development of projects that provide for an optimized substation and distribution system capable of meeting all system facility capacity, safety, reliability, operational and compliance requirements.Directs the production of a multi-year substation bank demand forecasts and corresponding load serving substation expansion plans for use by Oncor transmission system planning, to satisfy Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT’s) Annual Load Data Report (ALDR) requirements. This includes the preparation and presentation of technical information for distribution capacity and load serving substations necessary to support regulatory requirements, policy development and management decision making.Directs, as needed, the preparation of system impact studies, development and securing of interconnection agreements, and compliance with all Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and other regulatory reporting requirements.Directs the development and communication of distributed generation interconnection requirements for all types of exporting or non-exporting interconnections (Distributed Generation Resources, Settlement-Only Distributed Generation, synchronous, induction, solar and wind technologies) and the resolution of technical, legal and operational issues associated with interconnections on the distribution system.Maintain strategic oversight of the distribution planning domain including recognition of changing load addition characteristics and drivers, as well as, monitor advances in equipment and planning techniques, including creating new planning philosophies when warranted.Develops and maintains positive and constructive working relationships with a large set of internal and external clients.Directs the evaluation of existing system capabilities and development of recommendations for requested capacity for significant Economic Development projects on client accelerated timelines.Represents Business and Operations Services organization in cross functional committees, projects, and initiatives.Supports special projects as necessary.SkillsIn depth knowledge of company operations, policies and procedures.Demonstrated communication and team-building skills for effective interface with internal and external entities.Ability to persuade and negotiate competitively advantageous solutions while exhibiting strong business judgement.Demonstrated prudent stewardship of company resources while delivering maximum benefit.Education & ExperienceBachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar and 5+ years of work-related experience in planning, design, construction, operation, or maintenance of distribution facilities is required.In addition to the above, 5+ years of technical management and supervisory experience is required.Applicants that are registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas are encouraged to apply.Measure Of SuccessProduction of timely and quality expansion and improvement plans for the load serving substations, site specific load additions and Distributed Generation impact studies.Compliance with National Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), ERCOT, Texas Reliability Entity (TRE), PUCT and Oncor requirements for information and actions related to substation and distribution planning and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) interconnections.Delivery of timely and quality planning information to external and internal clients and stakeholders.BenefitsAt Oncor, we offer a comprehensive set of benefits, compensation and performance management programs designed specifically to attract, retain, motivate and reward our high-performing workforce.
