We are hiring a Communications & Operations Specialist to work directly alongside the owners and learn the business from the inside out. This is a hybrid role built around two core functions: communication (with vendors, general contractors, project managers, developers, and our internal team) and operations (the day-to-day work of moving bids, projects, and people forward without anything falling through the cracks). We are not hiring for experience. We are hiring for character, intelligence, and coachability. You will start by absorbing how every part of our business connects — estimating, procurement, vendor management, project coordination, scheduling, and client communication. Within 18–24 months, the right person is operating with real authority over a piece of the business. Within 3 years, you are running it. This is the kind of opportunity most people never get: direct access to the principals of a growing construction company, real ownership of work that matters, and a clear, fast path to operating responsibility. We will teach you the trade. You bring the work ethic and the brain. Position Responsibilities Communication (˜50% of the role) Serve as a primary point of contact for vendors, general contractors, project managers, and developers via phone, email, and in-person interactions Respond promptly to bid inquiries, scope clarification requests, and follow-up questions from clients Coordinate communications between SCS leadership, the field team, vendors, and customers — keeping every party informed and aligned Draft, review, and send professional written communications (proposals, bid summaries, scope letters, follow-up emails, vendor correspondence) Conduct vendor outreach to request quotes, confirm pricing, and verify lead times Manage bid follow-up: track submitted bids, call to check status, document outcomes, and feed learnings back to leadership Take ownership of professional phone presence — confident, clear, and respectful with people older and more senior than you Operations (˜40% of the role) Read architectural plans and specifications and prepare accurate quantity takeoffs in Bluebeam (training provided) Support multi-scope estimating for cabinets, countertops, and flooring (LVT, carpet, tile, quartz, casework) Build clean, well-organized bid packages with clear inclusions and exclusions Track projects, deadlines, and deliverables across multiple active jobs without missing details Maintain organized records of vendor quotes, pricing changes, and project documentation Identify cost-saving alternatives and flag risks before they become problems Use AI tools daily (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to accelerate research, communication drafting, and document analysis Sit in on internal project meetings and contribute to decisions as your knowledge grows Growth & Learning (˜10% of the role) Spend time on job sites and in our facility to understand the physical product Shadow estimating, procurement, and project management functions in rotation Take on increasing scope of responsibility as proficiency is demonstrated Participate in regular reviews with the owners on what you are learning and where you are heading Position Qualifications Excellent written and verbal communication. You can write a clean, professional email to a GC and hold a confident phone conversation with a vendor twice your age. Strong reading comprehension. You can absorb dense technical documents (plans, specs, contracts) and pull out what matters. Quantitative reasoning. Math under pressure does not bother you. You take pride in accurate numbers. High attention to detail. You catch what others miss and you double-check your own work before sending it out. Reliability and follow-through. When you say something will be done by Friday, it is done by Friday. Self-management. You do not need to be micromanaged. You manage your own calendar, deadlines, and priorities. Coachability. You are honest about what you do not know and aggressive about figuring it out. AI fluency. You already use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or similar tools regularly. If you don't, this role is not the right fit. Reliable transportation to North Salt Lake, UT. This is an in-person role. Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Preferred (Not Required — We Will Train) Any background where details, deadlines, or independent judgment mattered: military service, college athletics at a competitive level, running a side business, sales, accounting, restaurant or kitchen management, trades, customer success, paralegal work, executive assisting, or similar A degree in something quantitative or analytical (finance, business, engineering, math, construction management, communications) — but we have hired strong people without one and we will again Experience with Excel, Bluebeam, or other technical tools Prior estimating, construction, procurement, or property management exposure Personal Traits We Hire For Hungry. You want to grow, earn more, and take on bigger problems each year. Disciplined. You show up on time, do the work, and don't need reminders. Honest. You admit mistakes quickly and move on to fixing them. Curious. You ask good questions. You don't pretend to understand things you don't. Team-oriented. You can disagree with someone and still work well with them tomorrow. High floor, high ceiling. You can be trusted with anything today and you'll be ready for more tomorrow. Additional Information $60,000 starting salary , with raises tied directly to demonstrated proficiency. The right person reaches $75–80K within 18–24 months and keeps climbing.
