Location: Henrico, VAEmployment Type: Direct Hire, Full-TimeSalary: Starting at $100,000 annuallyPosition SummaryWe are seeking a Controls & Automation Engineer to support and enhance manufacturing systems within a regulated production environment. This role is responsible for maintaining automation infrastructure, assisting with capital initiatives, and ensuring systems operate efficiently while meeting compliance standards.You will collaborate with internal teams and external partners while also taking ownership of assigned systems and projects.Key ResponsibilitiesAutomation & System ImplementationSupport automation and controls projects from initial planning through final executionAssist with project scope definition, scheduling, vendor coordination, and technical requirementsProgram, configure, and test PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and drive technologiesProvide support for electrical systems related to automation projectsTechnical Support & TroubleshootingIdentify and resolve issues within PLC-based systems and SCADA platformsTroubleshoot drives, instrumentation, control panels, and industrial communication networksRecommend and implement improvements to enhance system reliability and performanceSystem Integrity & ComplianceMaintain automation systems in a validated and compliant stateSupport system documentation, backups, and data integrity practicesAssist with upgrades, recovery processes, and vendor coordinationChange Management & DocumentationParticipate in change control processes for system updates and improvementsHelp establish and maintain control system standardsProvide support during audits and technical evaluationsSafety & Regulatory AdherenceFollow all safety procedures and cGMP requirementsComplete required compliance and technical training programsQualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field5-10 years of experience working with industrial automation or control systemsExperience in regulated or cGMP environments is preferredTechnical ExpertiseHands-on experience with PLC programming and SCADA systemsFamiliarity with HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, and industrial electrical componentsExperience troubleshooting industrial control systems and networksAbility to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentationStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple prioritiesWork EnvironmentMay require occasional after-hours or emergency support in a 24/5 operationWork performed around industrial machinery and electrical equipmentAbility to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs. while using proper PPECompensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salaryMedical, dental, and vision insuranceCompany-paid short-term disability and life insurance401(k) with company match and immediate vestingPaid time off and holidaysEmployee referral incentivesOnsite amenitiesOpportunities for career growth and advancementWe may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
