The Structured Cabling Lead Technician is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of low‑voltage network infrastructure within healthcare facilities. This role ensures that copper and fiber cabling systems supporting clinical, administrative, and security technologies are installed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. The Lead Technician provides on‑site leadership, coordinates project activities, and ensures work is completed with minimal disruption to patient care.Key Responsibilities
Cabling Installation & Infrastructure Support
Install, terminate, label, and test copper (Cat6/Cat6A) and fiber optic cabling (OM3/OM4/OS2).Build and maintain telecommunications rooms, including racks, patch panels, grounding, and cable management.Perform cable certification using Fluke or equivalent testing equipment.Support cabling needs for network upgrades, nurse call systems, security devices, clinical equipment, and other low‑voltage systems.Healthcare Environment Compliance
Work safely in active clinical areas while adhering to infection control protocols (ICRA), PPE requirements, and clean‑work practices.Coordinate work around sensitive medical equipment, imaging suites, labs, and surgical environments.Follow HIPAA physical security guidelines and facility access procedures.Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area at all times.Leadership & Project Coordination
Lead installation crews, ensuring adherence to project specifications and industry standards.Interpret blueprints, floor plans, and construction documents to guide installation activities.Communicate effectively with IT teams, facilities management, contractors, and clinical staff.Track project progress, manage materials, and ensure timely completion of tasks.Conduct quality assurance checks and ensure all work meets BICSI and manufacturer standards.Troubleshooting & Technical Support
Diagnose and resolve cabling‑related network issues.Perform moves/adds/changes (MACs) across hospital departments.Respond to urgent repair needs in a 24/7 healthcare environment.Maintain accurate documentation, test results, and as‑built drawings.Qualifications
Required
3–5+ years of structured cabling experience, including copper and fiber installation.Strong understanding of TIA/EIA standards and low‑voltage best practices.Experience working in hospitals or other regulated environments.Ability to lead crews and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Proficiency with cable certification tools (e.g., Fluke DSX).Ability to work in sensitive clinical areas with strict safety and cleanliness requirements.Preferred
BICSI Technician (TECH) or Installer certification.Experience with nurse call, access control, CCTV, or other healthcare‑related low‑voltage systems is a plus.Familiarity with ICRA procedures and healthcare construction protocols.OSHA 10/30 certification.Core Competencies
