Machine Shop Tool Room Manager Janicki Industries is an innovative, family-owned aerospace company located at the foot of the Cascades. We focus on engineering and manufacturing complex projects for companies in the aerospace, defense, and space industries. We are looking for a Tool Room Manager to join our growing team.This position is located on-site in Hamilton, Washington State.POSITION DESCRIPTIONThe Machine Shop Tool Room Manager is responsible for overseeing all tool room operations of the Machine Shop. This role ensures that tools, materials, and equipment are available, maintained, and managed efficiently to support production schedules and operational needs. The Tool Room Manager serves as the primary owner of tool room processes, driving accuracy, organization, and:Tool Inventory Management & PlanningManage the full lifecycle of tool inventory, including forecasting, procurement requests, stocking levels, and replenishment strategiesEstablish and maintain min/max levels based on production schedules, historical usage, and upcoming programsCoordinate with Purchasing and vendors to ensure timely availability of tools, consumables, and specialty equipmentMonitor consumption trends and implement cost?saving strategies, including identifying substitute cutters or optimizing tool usageTool Inspection, Maintenance & ReliabilityOversee inspection standards for all tools and equipment entering or returning to the roomCoordinate tool maintenance, sharpening, calibration, and repair activities with internal teams and external vendorsEnsure damaged or worn tools are removed from circulation and replaced promptlyDrive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance tool reliability and reduce downtimeTool Room Operations & Workflow CoordinationManage the issuance and return of tools, ensuring accurate tracking and documentationMaintain a clean, organized, and efficient tool room environment that supports 5S and lean manufacturing principlesCollaborate with machine operators, supervisors, and planners to ensure tool availability aligns with production needsServe as the primary point of contact for tool?related questions, troubleshooting, and problem resolutionSystems & Data ManagementUtilize inventory management systems (JIMMS, SQL, VMI, Zoller, or similar) to track inventory, build and set tools, and maintain accurate recordsGenerate reports on tool usage, consumption, shortages, and cost trends to support operational decision?makingSupport integration of tool management software across departments and ensure data accuracy and consistencySafety, Compliance & Continuous ImprovementEnsure adherence to all safety regulations, company policies, and ITAR/EAR requirementsLead safety initiatives within the tool room, including audits, corrective actions, and training for tool room usersPromote and uphold 5S standards and drive improvements in organization, workflow, and efficiencyParticipate in cross?functional improvement projects related to tooling, machining efficiency, and material flowCommunication & Cross?Department CollaborationCommunicate effectively with machine operators, supervisors, engineering, and production teams to anticipate tool needs and resolve issuesFacilitate conflict resolution related to tool availability, tool condition, or workflow disruptionsProvide guidance and support to Tool Crib Technicians and other personnel who interact with the tool room, even without formal supervisory authorityRepresent the tool crib function in meetings, planning sessions, and process improvement initiativesOther DutiesPerform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Cell ManagerQUALIFICATIONSDue to our ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be a US Citizen or of Legal Permanent Resident Status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a) (3).This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). Janicki will assist with gaining this access once employed. Special Access Program or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position and requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or GED required; additional technical training preferredThree or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a machine shop or tool room settingStrong knowledge of machine tools, mills, cutting tools, and industrial equipmentDemonstrated experience with tool inventory management systems and data?driven decision?makingStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast?paced environmentAbility to lift and carry tools and materials up to 50 lbs.Must be safety?oriented with a solid understanding of shop safety practicesAbility to operate a forklift or other material handling equipment (certification may be required)Must be willing and able to obtain government?issued security clearanceADDITIONAL INFORMATIONWage range for this role is between $40 - $60 an hour plus a discretionary bonus, 401(k) matching, vacation, and health benefits. Employees can also receive additional pay for off-shifts, off-site work, and access pay. The range provided is Janicki's estimate of the base compensation for this role.
