Machinist VTL (Weekend Shift)
Position: Machinist Large CNC VTL (Weekend Shift)Schedule: 3rd shiftNote: Air-conditioned Modern Shop in located in Northwest Houston & room for advancement for the right individualPosition Overview:This position is responsible for setting up and operating conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.Job Responsibilities: Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirementsMeasures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machiningSelects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapersCalculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control mediaStarts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as requiredVerifies conformance of finished workpiece to specificationsSets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control dataMay perform any other work-related functions as deemed necessary and appropriate by immediate supervisorCore Qualifications:2 year technical school or 2 years completion of in-company training programCompany training as requiredShould have good knowledge of materials, feeds and speedsShould be able to make basic set-ups from scratch. Including jaw selection & boring of, and proving out of basic programsShould be able to run multiple machine groups i.e. small lathes and small millsClose attention and care is required to prevent damage to complex machine tools or costly metalsAble to perform this jobs duties with or without reasonable accommodations Desired/Preferred Qualifications:Graduate of technical school, full apprenticeship program, or completion of in-company, three-year training programThree or more years of experience as a fully qualified machinistOther:Ability to read blueprints and specifications and produce precision workAbility to work in a team-oriented environment that is fast paced and demandingMust be self-directed, have excellent initiative and organizational skillsExhibits a strong ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energyWorks well meeting multiple deadlines with the ability to deliver on time
