Direct Care Monitor Responsibilities: Monitors and observes clients, ensures their safety and well-being, and provides motivational support and guidance to assist them in meeting therapeutic goals.

Ability to work under minimal supervision in administering medications, conducting assessments, and performing treatments; and knowledge of health problems related to substance abuse and recovery; at a level normally acquired through one to two years related experience.

6 months of previous experience in substance abuse or mental health counseling in a corrections environment desired. Designation as a Recognized Associate Substance Abuse Counselor (RASAC I/II) required or must obtain within 60 days of employment.

Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a Human Service (Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health or Substance Abuse counseling, or closely related field) from an accredited college.

Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree in a Human Service field (psychology, social work, mental health or substance abuse counseling, or closely related field) from an accredited college or university.

High School Diploma OR Associates or Bachelor’s/Master's degree in psychology, social work, mental health counseling, or substance abuse counseling. Current certification or qualification as an alcohol, drug, or substance abuse counselor in New Jersey.

Former participant in a substance abuse treatment program offered by the Department of Corrections and demonstrated long-term stable recovery. Employee assistance programs focused on mental health.

Provides individual segregation discharges as needed/approved for offenders terminated early from substance abuse services, in accordance to MDOC contract requirements and at the discretion of the correctional facility.

Bachelor degree in psychology, social work, mental health or substance abuse counseling, or closely related field. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, mental health or substance abuse counseling or related field; or high school diploma and combination of work experience and training.

Job Requirements: Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a helping profession from an accredited college or university Some previous counseling experience, experience in substance use disorder or mental health treatment is preferred Must obtain certification as identified by state within 30 months of the first date that the counseling services are provided.
