About the Opportunity Smart Data is seeking a *Platform Engineer II* to support one of our clients' Market Risk technology teams and help maintain the *Adaptiv market risk platform*. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working with complex, mission-critical systems and wants to build expertise at the intersection of platform engineering, financial technology, and market risk. You'll play an important role in maintaining the stability, reliability, and scalability of a core risk platform supporting daily risk reporting, regulatory requirements, and stress-testing activities. While you'll receive support as you build your knowledge of Adaptiv and the market risk domain, you'll have the opportunity to grow into a trusted technical resource who can independently troubleshoot issues, implement platform changes, and drive improvements in operational resilience. What You'll BringRequired Skills & Experience * 3+ years of experience in platform engineering, production support, systems engineering, or a similar role * Experience supporting batch-oriented, compute-intensive platforms in a production environment * Strong platform engineering and production support experience * Proficiency with *Python* * Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills * Experience diagnosing complex system, application, and data issues * Working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments * Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Shell * Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL * Ability to work effectively in a highly controlled and regulated production environment * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience Nice to Have * Experience with *Adaptiv*, market risk platforms, or risk analytics systems * Background in financial services, capital markets, or risk technology * Knowledge of capital markets products * Familiarity with market risk concepts * Experience with scheduling and batch-processing tools * Exposure to cloud platforms and data services * Experience with monitoring, observability, and operational tooling *Don't have prior market risk experience? What You'll Do: Adaptiv Platform Support & Operations * Learn and develop expertise in the Adaptiv market risk platform, including its architecture, configurations, batch processes, calculations, and integrations * Provide production support for Adaptiv processing * Monitor batch runs, system health, and platform performance * Diagnose and resolve job failures, data issues, and other production incidents * Support month-end, stress-testing, and regulatory processing * Participate in an on-call or operational support rotation as needed Platform Engineering & Maintenance * Maintain and configure Adaptiv components to support evolving business and regulatory requirements * Perform environment maintenance, upgrades, patching, configuration changes, and platform tuning * Identify and implement improvements to platform stability and reliability * Enhance monitoring, observability, error handling, and recoverability * Automate manual processes and develop better operational tools * Help improve the overall scalability and maturity of the platform Incident & Problem Management * Serve as a technical responder for Adaptiv-related incidents * Partner with vendors, infrastructure teams, and internal stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues * Perform root-cause analysis and implement preventative solutions * Participate in post-incident reviews and continuous improvement initiatives * Help identify opportunities to prevent recurring production issues Collaboration & Domain Development You will work closely with: * Market Risk and Credit Risk teams * Quantitative and analytics teams * Data engineering teams * Infrastructure and platform engineering teams You'll also develop working knowledge of: * Market risk concepts such as VaR, sensitivities, and stress testing * How Adaptiv outputs are used by downstream systems and business processes * Business and regulatory requirements that drive platform changes Documentation & Knowledge Sharing * Create and maintain technical documentation for Adaptiv workflows and configurations * Develop operational runbooks and troubleshooting guides * Document common failure scenarios and resolutions * Share knowledge across the team to reduce reliance on individual subject-matter experts * Contribute to a culture of shared ownership and continuous improvement What Success Looks Like In this role, success means: * You become a trusted technical resource for the Adaptiv platform * Production issues are diagnosed and resolved quickly and effectively * Platform stability, reliability, and transparency improve over time * Operational knowledge is documented and accessible across the team * Manual intervention is reduced through automation and improved tooling * The platform becomes more resilient and easier to support * Knowledge is shared across the team, reducing single points of dependency Why This Role Matters The Adaptiv platform supports mission-critical risk calculations that are essential to business decision-making and regulatory compliance.
