Biopsy Coordinator

Job Summary: Position requires organization, good patient contact skills and an ability to work well with the biopsy technologists and radiologists.Days: Monday - Friday Hours: 8:00am - 4:00pmMajor Job Functions:Assists with mammography trackingScheduling all biopsy patients.Sending certified letters as neededMake pre-appointment calls to the scheduled biopsy patients.Make follow up calls to post-biopsy patients.Coordinates all pre-exam paperwork: previous mammogram reports, physician’s orders, Specimen/Pathology requisitions.Communicate patient history and other pertinent information to radiologists: preparation for exam and procedure, showing current diagnostic study, getting dictation done for reports.Assist radiologist during patient consultation/results. Schedules appointment as needed with Surgeon.Maintain patient and staff safety in all areas.Follow all HIPAA and OSHA guidelines.Sign off on surgical specimens as needed.Call for specimen pickup as needed.Schedule wire localizations.Make biopsy (weekly) and wire localization (daily) schedules.Call for orders and schedules add views.Adjust wire localization times as needed for surgical centers.Calls provider office for outside cases that need biopsies ACR BiRads 4 & 5.Prepare informational packets for all positive biopsy patients.Prepares post biopsy instructions.Prepares and sends instruments and sterile drapes for autoclave.Specifications:Education: High School diploma or GEDExperience: Clerical and clinical experience preferredCertification/License/Registration: NonePosition Titles and Number Supervised: None.Special Training/Skills: Must be able to remain calm in stressful situations. Ability to be flexible and work on multiple projects. Ability to interact on all levels. Must have good communication skills. Must be courteous at all times with interdepartmental personnel and patients.Physical Demands: General vision, clear speech, hearing, reading, writing, standing, walking. May use some repetitive movements, bend, kneel or move or carry light objects. Occasional filing or typing.Working Conditions: Works in a medical facility. Works with others in verbal and face-to-face contact.
