Controller Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting function for a growing organization in the property management/real estate industry. This individual will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, manage a high-performing team, ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, and drive process improvements across the finance organization.Candidates with commercial or residential real estate/property management experience are highly preferred, though individuals coming from public accounting (Audit or Advisory), consulting, or outsourced accounting services with strong leadership skills will also be considered.Key ResponsibilitiesLead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and month-end close.Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.Develop, implement, and improve accounting policies, internal controls, and financial processes.Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements and coordinate with external auditors during annual audits.Partner with executive leadership to provide financial insights and strategic recommendations.Manage and mentor an accounting team consisting of 2 direct reports and 5 indirect reports, fostering professional growth and accountability.Support system implementations, process automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.Assist with acquisitions, integrations, and special projects as needed.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.CPA required or actively pursuing CPA certification.7+ years of progressive accounting experience with increasing leadership responsibilities.Prior management experience leading accounting teams required.Real estate, property management, or commercial real estate experience is strongly preferred.Candidates from public accounting (Audit), consulting, or outsourced accounting/advisory firms are encouraged to apply.Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and month-end close processes.Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems.Preferred BackgroundController within a property management or real estate organization.Audit Manager or Senior Manager from a public accounting firm with real estate clients.Accounting Advisory or Consulting professional looking to transition into industry.Experience managing multi-entity accounting environments is a plus.
