Job Responsibilities Schedule and provide safe transport of inmates in all custody levels on post convictions relief (PCR), medical appointments, parole and extraditions for all levels of inmates to include safe-keepers (SK) and special management units (SMU), security detention (SD), regional courts, to and from hospitals (male and female). That are assigned to the central bus terminal / transport team. Sergeant will be on 24/7 call for scheduling of transport and staffing assignments. Provide proper use and training of keys, firearms, chemical munitions, and restraining equipment when necessary and ensure all are in working order. Maintain control of security keys / equipment assigned to the hospital. Ensure safety, order and control of inmates housed in community hospital. Inspects post to ensure subordinate proper performance stays up to date on security status of inmates assigned to the hospital. Responds to complaints and concerns from hospital staffing in reference to inmates and staff. And all other duties assigned by the Division of Security Management. Monitor and ensure transportation vehicles are in a high state of readiness, clean, and serviceable. Ensure communication devices are operational. Report and correct vehicular deficiencies. May be assigned to work in an Institutional setting after transportation assessments are completed. Monitor inmates' movement and relieve officers from post as needed and any other duties of a correctional sergeant II duties that may be required. Review prepared and submit written documentation and review operational and administrative reports when necessary. May be assigned specific duties to ensure cleaning of building, grounds, etc. Proper supervision and control of inmates in the central bus terminal. Perform all essential and marginal functions of the lieutenant II position as required by the lieutenant II post orders of a central bus terminal officer as needed and all other duties assigned by Division of Security Management. Assist in emergency evacuations of inmates/ civilians during or after inclement weather as needed. May be placed on an on-call list for weekend duties. Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience SCDC Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work. A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience. Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
