Java Software Engineer
TechFlow is seeking a Software Engineer (Java/Web) to support a mission-critical DoD software development and modernization program in Montgomery, AL. This program provides software development and technical support services to sustain, enhance, and optimize a critical customer system through secure, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.The Software Engineer will support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of modern web-based applications while contributing to ongoing system modernization efforts. Working under the guidance of senior technical leaders, this role will develop application features, implement user experience enhancements, support Agile development practices, and ensure software solutions meet established quality, security, and accessibility standards.The ideal candidate is a motivated software engineer with experience developing Java-based applications, collaborating in Agile teams, and applying secure coding practices within a DoD environment.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, enhance, test, and maintain clean, efficient, and secure application code following established coding standards and best practicesSupport software modernization efforts by implementing new capabilities, application enhancements, and system improvementsDevelop Java-based web applications and services within an Agile software development environmentParticipate in mandatory peer code reviews to ensure software quality, security, maintainability, and adherence to coding standardsImplement user experience (UX) enhancements and support low-code/no-code solutions as directed by technical leadershipDevelop and maintain automated tests to support software quality objectives, including achieving a minimum of 90% automated test coverage for new codeIdentify opportunities for technical debt reduction and support remediation effortsEnsure applications meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standards, achieving zero errors through automated and manual accessibility testingMaintain source code within the Government-owned/BES-managed Git repository using appropriate branching, version control, and Agile development practicesUtilize library and dependency management tools to maintain secure and reliable software componentsSupport software quality and security processes, including automated scanning, vulnerability remediation, and compliance activitiesCollaborate with senior engineers, architects, testers, DevSecOps engineers, and Agile team members to deliver mission-focused software solutionsRequirementsBachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field. Minimum 3 years of experience in Java and web application developmentExperience developing software using modern programming practices and secure coding standardsProficiency with Git-based version control workflowsExperience with automated testing frameworks and software quality practicesFamiliarity with DoD cybersecurity requirements, security scanning tools, and Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirementsAbility to work effectively in an Agile software development environmentStrong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional technical teamsActive Secret Security Clearance Preferred QualificationsExperience with modern front-end frameworks such as Angular, React, or similar technologiesExperience applying UX design principles to web-based applicationsFamiliarity with DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelinesExperience supporting DoD software modernization programsKnowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 AA complianceExperience working with cloud-based development environmentsFamiliarity with Agile tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar platformsBenefitsFounded in 1995 at the start of the dot-com revolution, TechFlow helped large commercial clients such as DreamWorks, Toshiba, MGM, and others modernize their business systems.
