I’m the founder and CEO of Watch Club. Watch Club is a seed stage startup backed by Google Ventures. We are looking for a full stack engineer who:is world class at building native iOS apps (swift/swiftui) and capable at building web apps (react) and backend systems.loves building 0-1 consumer products.loves watching tv/films + exploring fan communities on the internet.wants to work with a small, mighty team of the best consumer builders in the industry.Thank you for taking time to learn about what we do!Henry🚀 1 - About Watch ClubWatch Club’s mission is to create friendships through great storytelling. We build a product where fans watch TV shows and talk to their friends/fans in 1 platform. Think of it as a platform that combines Netflix with Twitter/Reddit/Instagram/TikTok/IMDB/Letterboxd. The opportunity:This is an exciting moment in the history of television and social networks! The way people discover, watch, and talk about TV is changing. People are spending less time watching television and spending more time watching narrative video on their smartphones. The microdrama industry is the fastest growing category in consumer video in the US, Europe, and China. We believe mobile TV is the future. We also believe mobile TV will be highly social. Our product:We are building a social video product where people watch and talk to each other about their favorite TV shows. Our prototype app is called WATCH CLUB.Our goal: By 2030, we build a community where 1 billion friends and fans watch and talk about mobile tv series everyday on our platform. Our product strategy:Distribute narrative stories that people love to watch and talk aboutBuild elegant creative & sharing tools for our fans to connect and talk with each otherCelebrate people who contribute positively to the communityWe are a team of engineers and product people who’ve built 0-1 products at Instagram, Facebook, Amazon, Airchat, Castro Labs, Alo, IDEO, and BeReal. We are writers and producers who’ve made talkworthy female-led tv shows at Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu.Investors: GV (Google Ventures), Patreon CEO Jack Conte, and leaders from Meta, Hulu, HBO.Our content roadmap:We are producing 10 new short form showsCreate a community of 5M young women and lgbtq+ people who watch + talk to each other everydayOur shows are inspired by the unique format of the hugely popular Norwegian tv series SKAM🎨 2 - What you’ll build at WATCH CLUB:World-class video experience. Create useful and delightful products that help audiences to easily watch narrative stories on mobile. Elegant creative and sharing tools. Build elegant tools that help audiences talk, make memes, create fan edits, and connect with each other over the stories on the platform. Identity and community: We’re building a social network. People come for the show. And stay for the network. We are building a space where the fan discussion/community is as much fun as the show itself.⚡️ 3 - About You:Mission-aligned:You’re excited about building the next generation of consumer social products. You love using social apps, from mainstream platforms to new, viral startups, and you think deeply about what makes products spread organically through user-to-user growth.Technical fluency:We're looking for someone who owns the mobile experience end-to-end — deep in native iOS, with the React chops to ship polished mobile web on their own — and whose work proves it.Native iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) is the heart of the product and where you'll spend most of your time — and you'll also carry our mobile web experience in React, so fans meet the same craft whether they arrive through the App Store or a shared link. You'll partner closely with our lead engineer on the backend and contribute to our Node.js services yourself, so you're shaping the full stack and experience layer. What you'll ownThe iOS app. The player, the feed, the discovery, the social primitives — every screen a fan touches. Native Swift/SwiftUI, taken from sketch to shipped without a handoff. You'll have strong opinions about how a tap should feel and the room to act on them. The mobile web experience. Shared links are how a social product spreads. You'll build our React mobile web so a friend who taps a link feels the same craft as a friend who downloads the app — and so the web becomes a real surface, not just a download funnel.Full-stack reach when the feature calls for it. Most features touch backend. You'll partner closely with our team on Node.js services, write the endpoints when it's faster, and care about the boundary between client and server. The patterns the team builds on. You're the second engineer. The iOS architecture, the component vocabulary, the event taxonomy — what you set up now compounds for everyone who joins after you.The roadmap, with me. What's worth building, what's not, what we're learning from users. You won't be implementing someone else's spec.Using AI tools well. We're heavy Claude users and want someone who can direct it productively and push back when it's wrongCaring about the audience. You don't have to be in the target demo, but you have to be genuinely curious about why people fall in love with shows and the communities around them💭 4 - Soft SkillsLow ego, high EQ: You’re self-aware, open to feedback, and care deeply about doing what’s best for the product and team.Collaborative: You enjoy working cross-functionally with design, engineering, and leadership. You like brainstorms, healthy debate, and navigating ambiguity together.Clear communicator: You can reason through complex trade-offs and explain decisions simply to both technical and non-technical partners.Because this is a small seed-stage team, the candidate should show evidence of building from ambiguity, owning features without handoff, and making pragmatic product/engineering decisions. Strong preference for engineers with a DIY builder mentality: people who have independently built, launched, and iterated on their own apps/products, ideally shipped to the App Store or web and attempted to acquire real users.💻 5. Work StyleGoals-focused: You set ambitious goals and work relentlessly to hit them.Problem-first mindset: You fall in love with problems, not solutions. You’re comfortable throwing away ideas that aren’t working.Product-driven: You care deeply about building great products, not just code quality. You’re excited to test ideas quickly and double down on what works.Independent and scrappy: You can get yourself unstuck, figure things out, and make progress even when things are ambiguous.Location: We are an in-person team. You live in Los Angeles or are excited to move to LA.If you don’t meet every requirement but believe you’d be a great fit, please apply and tell us why.☀️ 6.
