Reports To: Building PrincipalSupervises: Assigned students/staff membersEvaluation: As per Negotiated AgreementJob Summary: To develop in each pupil an appreciation of art as part of general culture; to teach techniques of art expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of art; to develop knowledge and skills in appreciating and creating art; to develop traits of respect, responsibility and dedication.QualificationsBachelor's degree with appropriate Kansas licensure.Current driver's license and personal transportation for itinerant assignment.Performance ResponsibilitiesTeaches skills, concepts and understandings in all art courses as outlined by the district art curriculum. Ensure students create art for public displays.Establish a positive learning environment.Plans a balanced art program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, instruction, and creation can be accomplished within the allotted time.Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.Uses repertoire of all types of art, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during class time, field trips, etc.Evaluates each pupil's artistic growth and performance.Selects and requisitions books, art supplies, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.Communicates with parents, classroom teachers, support staff, and school counselors, when necessary, on pupil progress.Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.Cooperates with the school administration in providing art programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.Other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrative staff, which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position.Physical Requirements/Environmental ConditionsRequires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend and/or reach.Must be able to work indoors and outdoors year-round.Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.FLSA Status: Exempt
