OverviewThe Managing Director, U.S. Business Banking Credit Risk & Strategy provides senior first‑line credit risk leadership for U.S. Business Banking. The role is accountable for the design, governance, and stewardship of the segment’s credit risk framework, policies, and portfolio risk outcomes, ensuring alignment with enterprise risk appetite, regulatory expectations, and growth objectives. Job Family Group: Audit, Risk & Compliance.ResponsibilitiesOwn and lead the credit risk framework, policies, and portfolio risk outcomes for U.S. Business Banking.Design, govern, and steward automated credit decision logic across portfolios.Define and maintain credit risk parameters, underwriting standards, approval authorities, and exception governance.Provide oversight of credit risk models, methodologies, and assumptions.Monitor portfolio‑level risk across asset quality, profitability, concentration, and emerging trends.Assess macroeconomic, market, and competitive dynamics to adjust risk posture.Ensure adherence to risk limits and controls, escalating material risks to senior leadership.Lead remediation of material risk and performance issues related to regulatory or audit findings.Provide senior first‑line risk oversight for wholesale and upmarket credit activities, including CRE, practice finance, and specialized portfolios.Review and challenge high‑risk or complex upmarket transactions.Oversee governance of commercial credit limit onboarding and risk enablement.Act as primary contact with regulators (OCC, CFPB, FRB, FDIC, SBA). Lead preparation for examinations, audits, and independent reviews.Lead responses to regulatory and audit requests, close MRAs.Represent the bank in regulatory engagements, monitor developments and assess impacts on policies and strategy.Ensure design and governance of first‑line credit risk controls aligned with enterprise frameworks.Govern credit risk data, reporting standards, and automated decisioning performance.Oversee stress testing, scenario analysis, and portfolio risk assessments.Provide strategic oversight and governance for credit technology enablement and digital workflows.Champion data‑driven credit risk strategies using predictive models and advanced analytics.Govern securitization‑related risk coordination and reporting.Lead credit risk due diligence for potential mergers or acquisitions.Guide post‑acquisition integration of credit risk policies and governance.Advise senior leaders on credit risk strategy, regulatory implications, and emerging risk considerations.Build relationships across risk, compliance, legal, finance, operations, technology, and product teams.Engage external industry bodies and experts to bring best practices.Set tone for risk culture, ethics, and accountability across the organization.Promote clarity and simplicity in risk frameworks and governance.Qualifications9+ years progressive experience in credit risk management, business banking, wholesale/commercial lending, or related financial services roles.Deep expertise in credit policy, underwriting frameworks, portfolio risk management, and regulatory engagement across retail and wholesale lending.Extensive knowledge of U.S. banking regulations and examination practices.Proven ability to operate at an enterprise level, influencing senior leaders and engaging regulators.Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data‑driven decision‑making capabilities.Strong technology acumen related to automated credit decisioning, digital lending platforms, and risk analytics.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including executive and regulatory presentations.Demonstrated ability to lead through complexity and ambiguity in a highly regulated environment.Program management skills – Expert.Influence skills – Expert.Collaboration & team skills – Expert (focus on cross‑group collaboration).Compensation and BenefitsThe base salary range for this position is USD$215,000.00 to USD$275,000.00. The total compensation package may include performance‑based incentives, discretionary bonuses, and commission structures for certain roles.
