Senior Accountant
Waukegan Steel is a structural steel fabricator serving the Chicagoland area and surrounding states. Our team has worked on various projects throughout the city including, Soldier Field, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Navy Pier, Willis Tower, Northwestern Welsh-Ryan Arena, Washington/Wabash CTA Platform, Ravinia Festival, and Lincoln Park Zoo. We are seeking a talented and dynamic Senior Accountant to support the financial accounting and reporting function of Waukegan Steel LLC. Key ResponsibilitiesPerform month end close activities, including preparation of journal entries and detailed account analyses and reconciliationsPrepare and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including consolidated financial statements and support schedulesPerform general ledger reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts and investigate and resolve variances in a timely manner.Prepare bank reconciliations and intercompany reconciliations.Perform work in process analysis and related procedures to ensure revenue recognition under percentage of completion accounting is accurate and compliantPerform routine inventory reconciliations and support periodic physical inventory counts, as applicableAssist with preparation of monthly projections, quarterly forecasts, and the Annual Operating PlanSupport accounting and reporting requirements from the parent company, NMLP CorporateIdentify and support continuous improvement initiatives related to accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiencySupport account receivables and account payables activities, as applicable to the roleComplete other ad hoc accounting and reporting requests as neededRequired Skills and CompetenciesStrong knowledge of US GAAP and up-to-date awareness of technical accounting guidanceAdvanced Excel skills, including pivots, lookups, formulas, and data analysis toolsStrong attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentOrganized, efficient, and process-orientedStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsTeam-oriented with the ability to collaborate across functionsEducation and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business (accounting concentration required if degree is not in accounting)3+ years of accounting experience preferably in the construction industry, including responsibility for closing the books.
