Specializing in internal medicine, cardiology, hospital follow-up care, and new patient access, the clinic offers annual exams, preventative care, chronic illness management, acute illness treatment, immunizations, and women's health services. Committed to personalized, patient-centered care, the clinic meets the diverse healthcare needs of its community.Location: 5102 N Roxboro Street, Durham, NC 27704Schedule: 8am - 5pm Monday and Friday, 7am - 6pm Tuesday - ThursdayWhat you will do:As a Clinical Nurse, you will deliver advanced and specialized care to patients, following the standards set by the Nursing Clinical Ladder Program. You'll also have opportunities to grow and contribute by joining educational sessions, serving on department committees, and participating in research or other health-related projects. In every interaction, you'll provide compassionate care to patients and their families, always practicing within the RN scope of practice defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.Identify patient care needs at the unit level and help create standards of care, patient/family education, and staff training to meet those needs.Participate in educational sessions, department committees, research projects, and other health-related activities as assigned.Provide direction on the proper use, care, and management of equipment and supplies.Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of equipment and materials and share feedback with the right team members.Watch for potential safety concerns in the care environment and take action to prevent issues.Support the growth of other team members through precepting, mentoring, coaching, and role modeling.Lead unit-level projects focused on improving patient care quality, clinical outcomes, and staff development.Perform other related duties as needed.What you will need:Education* Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program.* Exception: Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within seven years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.Experience* Applicants must meet all requirements set forth by the DUHS Nursing Career Ladder Program for level III.Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification* Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesDemonstrated understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and unlicensed staff.Strong knowledge and appropriate application of the nursing process.Solid foundation in professional nursing theory, practice, and procedures.Ability to assess the nursing needs of both acutely and chronically ill patients and their families.Ability to independently identify and utilize available resources while working collaboratively with the healthcare team.Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.Excellent communication skills with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team members, physicians, administrators, and leadership.Ability to provide patient and family education in alignment with the nursing plan of care.Strong sensory and cognitive abilities to process and prioritize information, treatments, and follow-up care.Proficiency in fine motor skills required for clinical procedures.Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional life support training as required by the work area.Ability to accurately document assessments, care plans, interventions, and patient evaluations.Proficient computer skills and the ability to learn new software programs.Ability to document and communicate relevant information using both electronic and paper-based systems.Capability to navigate the healthcare environment to effectively deliver patient care.Physical ability to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking.Strong organizational skills with the ability to remain focused in a fast-paced environment.Working knowledge of procedures and techniques used in administering routine and specialized patient treatments.Familiarity with infection control practices and safety precautions.Understanding of and compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) and other applicable regulatory requirements.Successful completion of pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing is required.Distinguishing Characteristics of this LevelThe Clinical Nurse III provides leadership at the unit level. The CNIII independently and creatively implements the nursing process for individual patients and identifies needs and plans care for unit patient populations. The CNIII is positive during changes and supports growth of peers.
