English Learner TeacherImmediate Supervisor: School PrincipalMinimum Qualifications:B.S. Degree w/ESL Certification from accredited college or universityAlabama Certification in teaching areaHighly Qualified StatusSkills and Abilities:Demonstrates competency in the content knowledge including concepts, facts, skills, and tools of inquiryTeaches English Learner students and:Assesses the English language proficiency of all students identified by Home Language SurveyAssists in compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and documentsMonitors the progress of all EL studentsCollaborates and coordinates with classroom teachers for strategies, accommodations, and supplemental materialsWorks with other personnel to facilitate communication with parents through various means (home visits, phone calls, translated documents/services, etc.) for meetings, conferences, etc.Provides families with assistance in accessing community resources to meet basic needs to eliminate barriers to learning and help their children succeed in schoolProvides teachers with information about environmental factors (availability of or lack of resources)Works with EL Coordinator and principals to organize long-term professional development activities for regular classroom teachers which promote cooperative learning and other strategies that provide scaffolding for EL studentsParticipates in their school's EL Committee, PST/RTI, IEP, I-ELP, etc. when representation is needed for EL studentsAttends system-wide meetings and professional development opportunitiesProvides learning experiences that make the subject matter meaningful and relevant for all studentsExhibits full understanding of all learning styles and differentiated instruction strategiesImplements research-based instructional and assessment strategiesMotivates, engages, and maximizes student learningDisplays knowledge and use of oral and written communicationCollaborates with family and community in the education of studentsRecognizes, appreciates, and employs cultural, ethnic, and social differences in studentsFollows all directives of immediate supervisor and Morgan County School Board policy in regard to professional conduct, duties, and responsibilitiesEssential Functions:Reads, speaks, and understands at professional levelOrganizes and effectively manages all classroom reports and communicationsDevelops, documents, and implements appropriate lesson plansEngages in continuous professional development that enhances personal knowledge and self-improvementCreates and maintains an active classroom management planDevelops and maintains an effective classroom discipline planParticipates actively in school activities and leadership roles that promote the school and school systemCollaborates with parents, community, colleagues and supervisorsMaintains safe and orderly classroom physical environmentPossesses physically ability to navigate the school and classroomOther Attributes:Is well-groomed and appropriately dressedRegular and punctual in attendance and arriving to position on timeProjects and modulates voice in a classroom environment with and/or without the use of electronic aidesRepresents the school system, school, and all school personnel in a positive manner at all timesEvaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.NOTE: Statements included in this description are intended to be representative of the duties and responsibilities of this job and are not to be interpreted as being all inclusive.
