Elementary LEGO Instructor (Contractor)

Location: Portland-Metro (Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro) Job Type: Independent Contractor--Part-Time with Additional Seasonal Work (Flexible Hours) During the school year, this role is part-time, about 4-10 hours a week, and we're happy to work with your schedule as much as we can. It's a great job for teacher's aides, retirees, students, and people with morning shifts at other jobs. During the school year, instructors teach in the afternoon. Most classes start between 2:30 and 3:30 PM and run for 60-90 minutes. Instructors choose how many days per week they want to work. During school breaks (spring, winter, summer): Options to teach half and full-day week-long camps during school breaks, between 9 AM- 4 PM. This is a great option for teachers looking for additional Compensation: $30 per hour Any day you teach, you will be paid for A MINIMUM of two hours, with periodic raises for returning instructors. Since our after-school programs are 1 hour long, you'll earn at least $60 per 1-hour class. Opportunity for higher pay is available depending on your experience, licenses, and certifications. Job Description: We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative LEGO Instructor to join our team and deliver hands-on educational programs for students in grades K-5. As a LEGO Instructor, you will be responsible for creating an exciting and interactive learning environment that ignites curiosity and encourages exploration. Using provided lesson plans, you will guide students in a variety of LEGO activities. Key Responsibilities: Dive deep into the curriculum and concepts, ensuring everyone, no matter their abilities or interests, gains value from the experience. Lead each class with a touch of magic, making sure every child is not just safe but also engaged and having a blast. Keep the lines of communication open, knowledgeable, and friendly with parents and clients, addressing questions and concerns with respect. Stick to Journey to STEAM and facility safety procedures, plus guidelines for supervising and releasing children. Take charge of the care and safekeeping of your LEGO teaching kit(s) and all other assigned materials, ensuring they're always ready for action. Be responsive and attentive when management reaches out, whether it's through phone, text, email, or good old-fashioned mail. Maintain a steady flow of communication with the Lead Instructor, sharing updates, asking questions, and ensuring everyone's on the same page. Be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs Qualifications: Have an engaging & outgoing personality Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Creativity and the ability to adapt teaching methods to different learning styles Patience, empathy, and the ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment Strong organizational skills and attention to detail A reliable vehicle and valid driver's license Some experience with managing and educating groups of children (Teacher, classroom aide, camp counselor, summer school teacher, etc.) Availability during programming hours (2:30-4:30 PM) two or more days each week and be willing to travel to multiple nearby schools/locations AND/OR Availability to teach at least four weeks of school breaks per calendar year All employees will be subject to DOJ/FBI criminal background checks(required) that must come back clear. Some college experience preferred; Education majors a plus. Additional Information: This is an independent contractor position with the possibility of becoming a part-time employee over time.
