POSITION SUMMARY: The Manufacturing Engineer I is responsible for ensuring successful ongoing operations at the manufacturing facility. Requires knowledge of manufacturing plant operations including "Lean manufacturing", "5 S" and "Demand Flow" principles. Assist in accomplishing "best in class" in quality, delivery and value to achieve production consistent with Company objectives while maintaining a safe, clean, organized high quality work environment with respect for all employees. Support new process and equipment development to enable new and more cost-effective footwear manufacturing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION (Other duties may be assigned.):
Promotes a safe, organized, productive, and efficient working environment
Responsible for new product introduction and development of associated processes into factory
Optimizes plant layout
Monitors production output and processes with an eye to utilizing continuous improvement tools including Lean and Six Sigma, to implement process improvements that will reduce cycle time, process variation, defects, changeover time, lead time, and overall manufacturing cost
Researches and develops methods to increase productivity, and reduce non-value-added processes with increasing quality
Manages and supports small and large scope projects including but not limited to: optimizing production cell layout, specifying new equipment, new product introduction, and continuous improvement initiatives
Resolves production issues by determining the cause of manufacturing defects or reworks and making recommendations to correct and resolve the problems
Trains and mentors factory employees in basic lean manufacturing and quality system concepts, helping them to understand, embrace, and use those skills
Provides process training and support to supervisors, quality inspectors, team leads and production employees in areas of critical importance
Works with maintenance to resolve any environmental issues that result from the manufacturing process
Identifies and implements key Lean/Six-Sigma metrics, estimating financial impact of projects, providing follow-up, updates and reports to management
Utilizes team-based approach to elicit employee participation in the development of systems that improve the business
POSITION REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline related to manufacturing (Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, etc.)
0-2 years of manufacturing engineering experience
Lean manufacturing experience driving continuous process improvements strongly preferred
Ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities
Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment
Proficient in MS Office applications including Excel and PowerPoint
Basic knowledge 2D software programs required
Strong achievement orientation; demonstrates strong personal drive, initiative and persistence; is motivated by challenges and determined in the face of setbacks
Effective interpersonal skills; develops and maintains working relationships with a diverse spectrum of people/customers (ex. leadership, peers, internal and external customers etc.); conveys respect for others' perspectives and contributions; demonstrates that maintaining effective working relationships is a priority
Solid verbal and written communication skills
Project management skills required
Bi-lingual ability a plus

The team member will frequently be required to use arms, hands, and fingers to handle, feel or reach. The sensory requirements for this position include vision, hearing, and touch. It also includes the ability to multi-task and problem solve under pressure. Based in LFI's Danner Shoe Manufacturing's Portland Oregon facility. The position is in a factory environment and operated on a shift work schedule. The position requires to be present onsite however may consist of the opportunities to work remotely when available.
