With cooling towers, fans, and refrigeration units, companies rely on brands like Marley, Recold, and SGS to provide comfort and mission critical and industrial cooling solutions.How You Will Make An Impact (Job Summary)SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. This position will be responsible for developing, improving and maintaining Quality documents and procedures related to the production of cooling towers and cooling tower parts. The incumbent will also be involved in the ISO documentation, audits, and procedures to maintain the ISO certification and compliance with our facility and products. The Quality Engineer will work closely with engineering to drive quality improvement through design of products and assembly manuals. This position will support Product Development to ensure quality on new products. In addition, this position will help to support commercial tours and customer inspections of the manufacturing plant. The incumbent will support the quality manager on new projects and be actively involved in external audits from customers and the external ISO Quality Management System Registrar. This position will be responsible for the Springfield plant calibration system and instrumental for performing internal audits and monitoring the internal audit program. The Quality Engineer will also be responsible for evaluating production performance against key process indicators, as well as formulating corrective measures to ensure that identified issues are resolved to prevent reoccurrence.What You Can Expect In This Role (Job Responsibilities)While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:Lead product quality assurance efforts ensuring conformance to standards and specifications through testing, inspecting, and monitoring key process variables in addition to product characteristicsImplements changes and updates to a plant wide quality system with a focus on maintenance of the company’s ISO certificationWorks closely with Team Leaders and Process Engineers to drive improvement in product qualityAssists R&D in evaluation/trials of new products and processes for safety, quality, & productivity prior to launchProvides technical support while working with business teams and production associates to improve plant and equipment efficiencies and reduce costsTroubleshoots and analyzes process capability. Implement actions to improve equipment quality of productionEvaluates and implements new technologies aimed at eliminating defectsActively support production work teams as required to meet world-class quality standardsMaintains plant calibration of tools and gauges. Provides training in production for proper use of gauges.Performs internal audits and maintenance of the internal audit program to comply with ISO system requirements Review customer feedback regularly and implement prioritized actions to resolve concernsPerforms root cause analysis and evaluates corrective measures to prevent nonconformities.Lead training activities related to qualityProvide other technical guidance and/or assistance as required by the businessProvides feedback to production teams – issues Quality Alerts to inform production of identified errors.What We Are Looking For (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:Required Experience & SkillsAbility to adapt to change and flex work at appropriate times so as to support the assembly processAbility to safely and effectively operate cutting toolsAbility to correctly use measuring tools and grinderAbility to correctly use crane and air floatAbility to correctly and safely use other hand tools (both manual and pneumatic)Ability to read a tape measure in metric and imperial standardsAbility to apply shop mathematics to solve problemsAbility to plan work and select proper toolsAbility to compare and accurately determine difference in size, shape, and form of objectsAbility to work within precise limits and/or standards of accuracyAbility to interpret build orders and engineering drawings correctlyAbility to operate impact gun and torque wrenchAbility to multi-taskAbility to work well with othersAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentAbility to communicate effectivelyAbility to follow and understand directionsEducation & CertificationsBachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Quality or related technical field preferred3-5 years of experience in an ISO or AS9100 certified production environmentSix Sigma leadership preferred, black or green belt certifiedExperience in implementing lean manufacturing techniquesAbility to coach, train and lead othersExperience hosting auditors and performing audits to comply with ISO system requirements.Ideal Experience & SkillsStrong skills in Microsoft Word and Excel ASQ CQE and CQA certifications preferredSAP experience is preferred, but is not required Travel & Working EnvironmentOnsite – manufacturing plant environment, with potential exposure to all types of weather, including excessive heat, excessive cold, and excessive noiseThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
