The Hazardous Materials Specialist - Shipper will provide characterization and program support for all radiological and non-radiological waste types (Low Level Waste, High Level Waste, Mixed Waste) with a focus on packaging and transportation. This position will provide broad-based technical and regulatory support for ongoing H2C waste management efforts and technical support for specific projects. The Hazardous Material Specialist - Shipper will also perform calculations to support waste management, characterization, and transportation efforts and create and identify documentation to be revised based on the regulations, results of calculations and other efforts. Support effective implementation and regulatory compliance of waste management programs.The Hazardous Material Specialist's - Shipper duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:Interface with regulators (EPA, DOE, Washington State).Interface with H2C Solid Waste Engineering to resolve complex technical questions concerning waste stream profiles, calculations, packaging, and procedures.Provide leadership and direction to facility personnel involved with all aspects of waste management, packaging, and transportation.Assure that packaging and shipment of all hazardous and radioactive materials are performed in accordance with all federal, state and local regulations.Evaluate complex hazardous materials packaging, transportation, handling and associated activities for compliance and acceptability.Develop, implement and coordinate programs and procedures for packaging, transport and disposal of hazardous materials.Perform Peer Verification on hazardous materials offered for shipment.Provide leadership to less experienced shippers and facility personnel on packaging and shipment of hazardous materials.Hazardous Materials Specialist - Shipper responsibilities will also include:Shipment planning and forecasting.Project coordination.Schedule control and development.Project interfaces and project leadership.Shipment paperwork preparation.Perform other duties as assigned.Required QualificationsGrade 19:Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a scientific discipline or a related field; andNine (9) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.Grade 20:Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a scientific discipline or a related field; andTen (10) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.Desired QualificationsExperience with Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).Experience with application of Washington State, DOE and DOT regulations and requirements.Compensation & BenefitsIn accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, H2C takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial grade and salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made at the appropriate grade level and within the targeted hiring range posted according to these factors.
