This individual safely performs manual labor tasks and operates trucks, tractors and/or other equipment to maintain water distribution, and wastewater collection systems.Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesEssential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:Represents the City of Red Oak in a professional, appropriate manner at all timesPerforms various tasks such as:Installing or repairing water/wastewater linesEvaluating and clearing blockages in wastewater linesExcavation and street cutsMeter replacement and installationEvaluating, operate, maintain, and repair fire hydrantsRepairs valves, pumps and motorsCleans and maintains equipment dailyBasic landscaping maintenance at water/wastewater sites and repair sitesAssists with inspections, troubleshooting and repair of water and sewer linesLoads and unloads construction materials such as pipes, concrete and wasteResponds to emergency calls from citizens and others for water and sewer line leaks and repairsAssists in the operation of boring machine, combo truck, and tapping equipmentSafely operates a variety of Public Works equipment relative to work assignments, including; manual, power and motor driven machinery such as small power and hand tools, dump trucks, dirt compactors, jack hammers, and street concrete sawsSupports the relationship between the City and the public through courteous and cooperative interactionsPerforms all job duties, tasks and activities according to work instructions, defined procedures and policiesPerforms all work activities in a safe manner and follows all safety rulesPerforms related duties as assigned or required by supervisorIdentifies, records and reports problems that interfere with completion of job duties, and initiates, recommends or provides solutions as appropriateKeeps work areas clean and orderlyExemplifies a cooperative attitude to work effectively with othersProtects classified, confidential and sensitive informationQualificationsEDUCATION & EXPERIENCEHigh School diploma or GED requiredDemonstrated experience safely operating tools and equipment listed aboveCERTIFICATIONS & LICENSESValid Texas Class C Driver's License with clear driving recordNIMS Training obtained within 3 months of hireClass "D" Water Distribution License and Class I Wastewater certificates preferred, or ability to obtain within six months of hireAbility to obtain Class B Commercial Driver's permit within 6 months, and Class B Commercial Driver's License within 1 year of hireKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to attain skills for proper use and care of manual, gas and electric power tools, equipment and materials. used in public works streets and drainage utility projects.Ability to attain knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform tasks safely.Basic written and spoken English language skills and the ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.Basic math skills including ability to perform accurate measurements.Basic computer skills.Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and maintain effective work relationships.Ability to respond appropriately to requests and inquiries.Ability to make sound decisions and effectively handle stressful situations in a professional manner.Ability to abide by all rules, regulations, policies and procedures.Ability to safely perform all physical requirements of the job, including strenuous tasks under varying weather conditions.The City of Red Oak recognizes that we can not serve our customers without a dedicated workforce.
