High School Assistant PrincipalPrimary Function:Assist the principal in providing school-wide leadership of the high school.Preferred Qualifications:M.A. in the field of education is required with coursework in educational leadershipMinimum of three to five years of successful teaching experiencePreferred minimum of three years of successful administrative experienceKnowledge of theory, research methods, and best practices in educationPlanning and organizational skills, knowledge of age-appropriate curriculum, application of appropriate assessment, knowledge, and effective use of age-appropriate, research-based instructional and behavioral strategies.Computer literacy skillsAbility to communicate effectively and relate positively with students, parents, staff, and other members of the communityAdministrative certificateMajor Responsibilities:Work cooperatively with the principal in planning and administering all aspects of the high schoolAdministration of an effective discipline program that promotes a safe and orderly environment conducive to teaching and learningAssist the principal and staff in the administration of effective building discipline, dealing with day-to-day issuesAssist the principal in developing curricular and extracurricular programs to meet the needs and interests of the students of the communityAssist the principal in the evaluation of all programs and personnel in the high schoolAdvise teaching staff on classroom management strategiesAssist in safety inspections and safety drill practice activitiesAssist with the coordination of transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support servicesSupervise student attendance, maintain up-to-date records, develop attendance procedures, and notify parents and agencies concerning violationsAssist in building operation and maintenanceCoordinate the work of the advisors for classes and clubsObserve and evaluate teaching and support staff as assigned by the principalCollaborate with parents, teachers, the counseling department, and staff to develop and implement preventative strategies that will improve student behavior.Provide support and direction for state standardized testing proceduresBe an active member on school committees/groupsImplement and support building-wide intervention programsServe as the administrative head in the absence of the principalThis position requires regular and reliable in-person attendanceCompensation:Commensurate with experienceFull benefits package
