Assistant Principal - High School

Position: Assistant Principal Location: Caledonia High School Reports To: Building Principal/Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Certification: MDE School Administrator Certification Compensation: Per Unit Agreement Start Date: To be determined Position Summary This position supports the building principal in the leadership, management, and supervision of the daily operations of Caledonia High School to ensure the education process is meeting the needs of all students. The assistant principal will support efforts to improve student achievement, monitor and evaluate instruction, and support teachers in improving instructional practices. In addition, the Assistant Principal will lead, manage, and supervise extracurricular programs, Essential Functions and Responsibilities Instructional Leadership:Identifies and coordinates the educational needs of regular and special education programs to ensure maximum educational benefitsParticipate as the lead learner in professional development by preparing agendas, actively engaging, facilitating, and reflecting on learningAssist the Principal in leading and implementing instructional programs in coordination with the Office of Teaching and LearningEvaluates instructional programs to ensure student achievement and successful executionCollect and provide data on the effectiveness and performance of programs implemented in the school.Make decisions based on the best interests of students first with the highest level of professional ethics possible.Maintains a positive working relationship with all building stakeholders and acts as a problem-solver when concerns ariseMaintains relationships with parents and other community organizations to ensure two-way communication which fosters parent and community involvementConnect positively, professionally, and constructively with students and families.Develops an atmosphere of trust, respect, interest, and enthusiasm within the schoolAssist the Principal in maintaining a positive climate and culture that ensures students and staff feel safe to learnMust be actively involved in the building Professional Learning CommunitiesAdheres to all district policies and administrative guidelines Management: Support the principal during the interview and selection process of building staffSupervise and evaluate building staffDevelop, monitor, and enforce school rules aligned with district safety and security policies and protocolsAddresses behavioral issues until resolved in a satisfactory mannerEncourage ethical practices of teachersProvides leadership and direction to staff concerning the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programming, co-curricular activities, and extra-curricular activities including athletics Supervisory ResponsibilitiesManages employees and students in the school. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the school and personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities following the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, recommendations for hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. GENERALServe on district-wide committees as neededKeep the principal fully informed of significant matters impacting the administration of the school and consult freely with him/her concerning such mattersEstablish an open line of communication with the building stakeholdersPerform any other duties assigned by the Executive Director of Student Achievement EXTRACURRICULAR PROGRAMS:Assist the principal with the leadership, organization, and management of afterschool activities programs, including athletics. Employment QualificationsEDUCATION: Master's Degree in education with an emphasis on curriculum development, educational leadership, or a related field. Michigan Administrative Certification is requiredEXPERIENCE: A minimum of five to seven years of progressively more responsibility or expansive experience in an educational setting is required. Candidates must be able to demonstrate three to five years of supervisory or leadership experience.
