HVAC Superintendent (Commercial Construction)Location: Project-Based / Jobsite Reports To: Project Manager / Mechanical Project Manager Employment Type: Full-TimePosition SummaryThe HVAC Superintendent is responsible for on-site supervision and coordination of all HVAC/mechanical installation activities on commercial construction projects. This role ensures HVAC systems are installed safely, per plans and specifications, on schedule, and in compliance with applicable codes and project requirements.The HVAC Superintendent serves as the primary field authority for mechanical work, coordinating subcontractors, enforcing safety and quality standards, and working closely with project management to deliver successful mechanical installations.HVAC Field SupervisionOversee daily on-site HVAC/mechanical construction activitiesSupervise HVAC subcontractors, foremen, and mechanical tradesEnsure HVAC systems are installed according to approved drawings, specifications, and shop drawingsCoordinate ductwork, piping, equipment placement, and system routingVerify proper installation of air handling units, RTUs, exhaust systems, VAVs, controls, and related componentsScheduling & CoordinationDevelop and manage short-term (look-ahead) HVAC schedulesCoordinate HVAC work with other trades (electrical, plumbing, fire protection, structural)Plan and schedule equipment deliveries, crane picks, and material stagingIdentify and resolve field conflicts, clashes, or sequencing issuesSafety & ComplianceEnforce OSHA and jobsite safety standardsConduct HVAC-specific safety meetings and toolbox talksEnsure compliance with applicable mechanical codes (IMC, local AHJ requirements)Maintain a clean, safe, and organized mechanical work areaQuality Control & InspectionsMonitor workmanship and material qualityEnsure installations meet project specifications and industry standardsCoordinate inspections with local authorities and third-party inspectorsManage HVAC punch lists and verify corrective work completionTesting, Startup & CloseoutCoordinate HVAC system testing, balancing (TAB), and startup activitiesSupport commissioning activities as required by the projectVerify system functionality prior to turnoverAssist with project closeout documentation related to HVAC systemsCommunication & ReportingServe as the primary HVAC field contact on the jobsiteCommunicate daily progress, issues, and manpower needs to the Project ManagerMaintain daily reports, logs, and mechanical field documentationCoordinate with owners, engineers, inspectors, and commissioning agents as neededRequired5+ years of experience in commercial HVAC or mechanical constructionPrior experience as an HVAC Superintendent, Foreman, or Lead Mechanical SupervisorStrong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specificationsWorking knowledge of OSHA safety standardsStrong leadership and coordination skills in a jobsite environmentAbility to work full-time on active construction sitesExperience on commercial projects such as:Office and tenant improvementHealthcareIndustrial and manufacturingData centersHospitalityOSHA 30 certificationExperience with Procore or similar construction management platformsBilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
