Human Resources and Safety Manager

Northeast Earth Mechanics is seeking a Safety & HR Manager to lead both the Safety and Human Resources functions for our growing civil construction business. This newly created position will own both functions end-to-end, partner closely with field and office leadership, and report directly to the CEO as a member of the management team. The role is roughly half safety, half HR, and is based on-site in Pittsfield, NH, in-person five Monday-Friday.Essential FunctionsSafetyRebuild and lead the company-wide safety programConduct jobsite inspections, audits, and hazard assessmentsDevelop and deliver toolbox talks, new-hire orientations, and certification trainingManage incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and OSHA logsAdminister workers' compensation claims and coordinate return-to-workEnsure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and environmental regulationsOversee site-specific safety plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and pre-task planning across all active projectsGet out to active jobsites regularly to observe, coach, and support field crewsHuman ResourcesLead full-cycle recruiting for field and office roles, including project managers, pipefitters, operators, laborers, and specialized hiresManage onboarding, including in-person introductions to new hires in the fieldAdminister benefits programs and run annual open enrollmentWrite and formalize company policies, including the employee referral program. · Manage new hires, terminations, and lifecycle data in HRHQSupport the performance review process and coach managers through executionHandle employee relations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actionsCoach managers through difficult conversationsCore CompetenciesHighly motivated, results oriented, and drivenExcellent interpersonal communication, with the ability to build trust across the office, the management team, and the jobsiteStrong listening skills and the ability to coach othersGood planning and organizational skills, with the ability to properly prioritize work across competing demandsSound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive employee and safety mattersA strong ability to be adaptable and flexibleTeam playerAbility to work with teams and be part of the decision-making process in a team environmentEducation and ExperienceMinimum of 5 years of progressive experience across HR and safetyExperience in construction, manufacturing, utilities, or another frontline operational environment strongly preferredWorking knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulationsDemonstrated experience building or rebuilding a safety programSolid HR foundation across benefits, employee relations, recruiting, and handbook developmentProficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and HRIS platforms.Position TypeThis is a full-time, salaried, on-site position based in Pittsfield, NH. Base salary of approximately $90,000, plus profit share that has historically run 10–15% of base.
