Construction Manager
Food For the Poor Jamaica is seeking an experienced Construction Manager. The position reports directly to the Executive Director and ensures efficient implementation of construction programs while maintaining quality control according to the agreed standards. Please send your resume addressed to the HR Manager at hr@foodforthepoorja.orgKEY FUNCTIONS AND DUTIESGeneralPlan and review construction projects to ensure alignment with the mission/vision of FFP and the expectations of the donors/funding agenciesReview plans, drawings and costings for appropriateness and correctnessLiaise with relevant government agencies in order to identify and/or respond quickly to potential bottlenecks in the various approval processesRepresent FFP at the leadership level with local and international stakeholdersManage staff to ensure maximum productivityGuide the preparation of project and department budgetsPrepare and present project and department status reports as per agreed timelinesMake appropriate adjustments in manpower, material and scheduling to reduce or offset budget and time overrunsGuide the sourcing and replacement of materialsAssist in the identification and vetting of contractorsGuide the setting of rates for contractorsGuide budget and schedule expectations for projects, based on expected deliverablesEnsure that appropriate health and safety guidelines are in place and adhered toKeep up to date with local and international best practice, with a view to guiding the improvement and or development of standards and practices within FFPJOB SPECIFICATION/COMPETENCIESRequired Qualification:Master's' Degree in a Construction related fieldProject Management CertificationRequired Experience:10 years of in-field construction experience, with at least four years' experience in a decision-making capacity, with responsibility for budgets and implementation related to construction activities or site managementKey Competencies:Commercial and business experienceIn-depth knowledge of risk assessment and management tools and practicesStrong communication skills, marked by an ability to interact with persons at all socio-economic and professional levelsComputer literate, with proficiency in the MS Office Suite, especially in spreadsheet, presentation and project management or scheduling; demonstrated comfort with construction specific softwareAbility to handle high levels of pressure while making effective decisionsOther Required Competencies:Strong analytical skillsStrong leadership skillsWorking Conditions:At least 50% of the time in an office environment, with the balance of the time spent outdoors, often in live construction areas marked by noise and dust; regular travel between parishes.
