Technical Buyer - Engineered Components

A growing custom manufacturing and engineered equipment company in the Ann Arbor / Dexter area is seeking a Technical Buyer to support a highly customized, low-volume / high-mix manufacturing environment.This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with engineering and operations teams to source complex mechanical components, fabricated parts, tooling, and assemblies from a broad supplier base. The role requires strong technical purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment where engineering drawings, supplier coordination, and problem-solving are part of the daily workflow.Key ResponsibilitiesGenerate RFQs and source machined components, tooling, fabricated parts, and mechanical assembliesEvaluate supplier quotations based on cost, lead time, quality, and technical fitIssue and manage purchase orders while maintaining accurate purchasing recordsWork closely with engineering, production, and inventory teams to support project timelines and manufacturing needsReview engineering drawings and specifications to ensure components meet technical requirementsDevelop and maintain relationships with suppliers and outside vendorsTrack open orders and proactively resolve delivery or supply chain issuesSupport cost reduction and supplier performance initiativesQualifications3+ years of purchasing, procurement, or technical sourcing experience within manufacturingExperience sourcing mechanical components, machined parts, tooling, or custom assembliesAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings and specificationsExperience supporting engineer-to-order, custom manufacturing, automation, machinery, or industrial equipment environments strongly preferredStrong organizational skills and attention to detailProficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP/MRP systemsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environmentPreferred BackgroundsExperience from the following environments is especially relevant:Custom machineryIndustrial automationTooling or fixture manufacturingAerospace or defense manufacturingRobotics or engineered systemsPrototype or low-volume manufacturingCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salaryMedical, dental, and vision coverage401(k) with company contributionPaid time offTuition reimbursementStable, team-oriented manufacturing environment with long-term growth potential
