Plant operator will need to understand and operate all plant processes and procedures while keeping a safe and clean working environment.Job SummaryThe Control Room Operator is responsible for monitoring, controlling, and optimizing chemical manufacturing processes using distributed control systems (DCS) and related automation platforms. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant plant operations while coordinating closely with field operators, engineering, and maintenance teams. While the position is primarily based in the control room, regular hands-on involvement in plant operations is expected, including time spent in process areas while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Candidates may qualify through prior control room/industrial operations experience or through a chemistry-based background with applicable process knowledge.Key ResponsibilitiesMonitor and control chemical production processes using DCS, PLC, and SCADA systemsInterpret process data, alarms, and trends to maintain stable and safe operationsAdjust process parameters to meet production, quality, and safety targetsCommunicate with field operators to coordinate start-ups, shutdowns, and routine operationsPerform field rounds, equipment inspections, sampling, and operational tasks as neededRespond to process upsets, alarms, and emergency situations according to plant proceduresFollow all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, PSM, etc.)Complete accurate logs, reports, and shift handoversSupport troubleshooting efforts and continuous improvement initiativesParticipate in training, safety meetings, and process reviewsRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredOne of the following:Previous experience as a Control Room Operator, Process Operator, or similar role in a chemical, petrochemical, refining, or manufacturing environmentOR* Associate or bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field with strong understanding of chemical processesPreferred QualificationsExperience operating DCS platforms (e.g., Honeywell, Emerson DeltaV, Yokogawa, Siemens)Knowledge of chemical reaction processes, distillation, blending, or batch operationsUnderstanding of P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and operating proceduresPrior experience in a regulated environment (PSM, GMP, ISO, or similar)Mechanical aptitude and comfort working around industrial equipmentSkills & CompetenciesStrong attention to detail and situational awarenessEffective communication and teamwork skillsAbility to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressureWillingness to perform both control room and field-based operational workCommitment to safety and operational excellenceWorking ConditionsWork is split between control room duties and active process areasRegular exposure to industrial environments, including heat, noise, and process materials, is expected while wearing appropriate PPEAbility to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and stand or walk for extended periodsShift: Graves (12 hour shifts 5pm to 5am)Why Thatcher is right for you100% company-funded Profit Sharing Plan (up to 25% of salary annually)401 (k) with traditional and Roth contribution optionsComprehensive benefits: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, HSA/FSA,3+ weeks of PTO, and paid holidaysEducation reimbursement and ongoing professional developmentThe pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience).
