IRVING ISDCUSTODIAN JOB DESCRIPTIONPrimary Purpose:Clean and maintain district facilities using routine procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.Qualifications:Education/CertificationHigh School Diploma or GED, preferredSpecial Knowledge/SkillsAbility to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety proceduresAptitude for successful completion of tasksAbility to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipmentAbility to properly handle cleaning suppliesAbility to work well with othersKnowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenanceAbility to speak and read EnglishBilingual in Spanish, preferredExperienceCleaning experience, preferredMajor Responsibilities and Duties:CleaningClean classrooms, restrooms, corridors, floors, cafeteria, offices, and other areas as assigned. Maintain clean and neat campus grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas. Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash. Assist in maintaining a cleaning supplies and equipment inventory and request supplies as needed. Maintenance and RepairReport repairs and safety concerns to the building manager or supervisors. Assist in performing preventive maintenance to ensure comfort, health, and safety for students and staff. Move furniture or equipment as directed and assist in setting up facilities for special events, as needed. OtherRespond in a timely manner when contacted regarding urgent situations or emergencies (during or outside of normal business hours). Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as a role model for staff, students, and public. May be reassigned to different campuses as needed, based on the needs of the District. Perform other duties as assigned. SafetyAssist with opening and closing building as assigned, checking to ensure that exit doors are open and panic bolts are working properly during hours of occupancy. Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities. Inspect tools, machines and equipment for safety and efficiency, and operate according to established safety procedures. Follow safety procedures and techniques to perform duties, including lifting, and climbing. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor. Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety. Supervisory Responsibilities:None Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Carpentry, plumbing, electrical and hand tools; buffer, stripper, wet/dry vacuum cleaner, shampooer, cleaning chemicals Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladder, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance, on a daily basis Visual: Use of depth perception; distinguish basic colors Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to hot and cold temperatures and humid conditions, electrical hazards, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise and vibration; work around moving objects and vehicles, ladders, scaffolding, pallet jacks, and lift equipment; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress This document describes the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.
