R&D Business Growth Lead (IEM)About The RoleWe are seeking an R&D Business Growth Lead in Government Contracting to help drive innovation, outreach, and growth across government agency markets. This role combines marketing strategy, technology research, product positioning, and business development support for solutions serving federal, state, local, and public-sector organizations.The ideal candidate understands how government agencies evaluate, procure, and adopt technology solutions. They will help identify emerging needs, translate technical capabilities into compelling messaging, and support research-driven marketing initiatives that position the organization as a trusted partner to government customers.We are an established electronics firm that designs and develops advanced machine-vision and wireless-sensor-based products for the transportation and defense industries in the US and worldwide. IEM is a government contractor, and several of the products the company makes are widely used by the railroad industry in the US and throughout the world.Key ResponsibilitiesMarketing Technology StrategyDevelop and support marketing strategies for technology, research, and innovation offerings aimed at government agencies.Translate complex technical capabilities into clear value propositions, white papers, presentations, case studies, and proposal-support materials.Support campaigns targeting federal, state, and local government decision-makersR&D and Market IntelligenceResearch emerging government needs, technology trends, funding priorities, grants, procurement vehicles, and agency modernization initiatives.Identify opportunities where new technologies can support public-sector missions.Monitor competitor activity and market developments in government technology and innovation.Government Agency EngagementSupport outreach to agency stakeholders, program managers, contracting officers, and strategic partners.Assist with positioning for RFIs, RFPs, grants, pilot programs, and innovation challenges.Help prepare briefing materials, capability statements, demos, and executive presentations.Cross-Functional CollaborationWork closely with technical teams, subject matter experts, business development, proposal teams, and leadership.Help shape new solution concepts based on agency needs and market research.Support go-to-market plans for new products, pilots, or R&D initiatives.QualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Public Policy, Technology, Engineering, or a related field.Experience in marketing, product marketing, business development, R&D commercialization, or technology strategy.Familiarity with government agencies, public-sector procurement, grants, or federal/state/local contracting.Strong writing and communication skills, especially for technical or government audiences.Ability to research complex topics and convert findings into actionable marketing or business development materials.Comfortable working with technical teams and translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.Must be a U.S. citizen.PreferredExperience with Government Technology, emergency management, homeland security, defense, infrastructure, public health, transportation, climate resilience, data analytics, AI, or SaaS solutions.Knowledge of procurement vehicles, government funding cycles, SBIR/STTR, OTA, grants, or cooperative agreements.Experience developing white papers, capability statements, proposal content, or agency briefing decks.Familiarity with CRM, marketing automation, analytics platforms, content management systems, or market intelligence tools.Existing network within government agencies, public-sector partners, or technology vendors.The ideal candidate is strategic, curious, and mission-driven. They are equally comfortable researching emerging technologies, writing persuasive marketing content, and working with technical experts to shape solutions for government customers.
