About Us:Caturus Energy and Commonwealth LNG are combined within the Caturus platform founded by Kimmeridge – an alternative asset manager focused on the energy sector – to support the overarching goal of providing low-cost energy on demand with the lowest carbon footprint.Kimmeridge’s vision in creating Caturus is to build the only independent, fully integrated natural gas and LNG export platform in the U.S. through a combination of its upstream operations under Caturus Energy, formerly Kimmeridge Texas Gas, and via Commonwealth LNG, a 9.5 million tonnes per annum liquefied natural gas export terminal in southwestern Louisiana on the U.S. Gulf Coast. The combined entities are committed to delivering responsibly sourced, low-emission fuel to domestic and international markets.Position Summary:The Tax Manager will play a critical role in managing the Company’s federal, state, and local tax compliance and supporting tax matters related to major capital projects, including the development of an LNG export facility in the state of Louisiana.The role will focus on collaborating with outside tax consultants to understand and comply with the complexities of federal and state and local tax regulations, specifically related to construction and development in Louisiana as well as familiarity with tariffs and duties for the importation of equipment during the facilities construction. The Tax Manager will oversee the preparation and review of federal and state and local partnership returns and K-1’s, corporate tax filings, regulatory filings, and indirect tax filings. The Tax Manager will be based in our Houston office and report to the Tax Director. Key Accountabilities:Serve as the primary point of contact for third‑party tax advisors coordinating the preparation, review, and timely filing of Federal and state and local tax returns, extensions, estimates, and noticesOwn and manage tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including income/franchise, sales and use, and other required filings, as applicableStay up-to-date on changes in tax laws and regulations and proactively communicate updates to relevant teams.Conduct regular reviews of project expenditures to ensure proper tax treatment and identify potential tax savings.Manage and respond to inquiries from state and local tax authorities related to the construction project.Maintain accurate and organized records of all tax filings, payments, and correspondence related to the construction project and any/all tax deadlines.Collaborate with other departments (e.g., accounting, construction management, procurement) to ensure proper tax treatment of transactions.Provide guidance and support to Tax Director on tax matters.Identify and implement strategies to minimize tax liabilities and maximize tax savings.Manage data preparation and documentation for tax audits, if any, using statutory, regulatory or judicial authority to support the company’s position on issues arising during a tax audit.Research, analyze, and apply for relevant state and local tax incentive programs related to manufacturing facility construction and job creation (e.g., Enterprise Zone, Quality Jobs, investment tax credits, property tax abatements).Qualifications: Education, Certificates, and Licenses:Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting required.CPA or other relevant professional certification strongly preferred. Experience: 7+ years of experience in multi-jurisdictional tax compliance, with a strong focus on sales and use tax and experience related to construction projects is highly desirable.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Excellent project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple workstreams simultaneouslyStrong understanding of state and local tax laws, regulations, and filing requirements in Louisiana, particularly those related to construction and manufacturing.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a solutions-oriented approach.Clear, professional communicator (written and verbal) who can work effectively with external advisors, partners, and internal stakeholdersExperience working with state and local tax incentive programs is highly desirable.Experience with tax software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, SageIntacct) is preferred.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Detail-oriented and organized with strong record-keeping skills.Experience managing duties and tariffs is highly desirable.Experience managing external tax advisors and preparers is a plus.Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of synthesizing complex information into actionable insights.
