SummaryMEPUSA, a subsidiary of Mitsui & Co., Ltd., is an E&P company with substantial investments in onshore oil and gas assets located in the United States. The Accounting & Finance department is seeking a Tax Manager to lead the organization’s direct and indirect tax accounting and compliance efforts, to include quarterly and annual provisions, deferred tax accounting, federal, state, and local filings, sales & use tax, excise tax, and other non-income taxes where applicable. The Tax Manager utilizes strong initiative and project management skills to anticipate and balance competing demands, coordinate Accounting & Finance staff efforts, and direct concurrent projects to timely meet stakeholder needs. The Tax Manager acts as a business partner to internal departments and is a key member of the Accounting & Finance team. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be willing to work in different capacities, foster a positive team environment, and mentor and oversee the work of others.Essential Functions And ResponsibilitiesPerform quarterly and annual federal and state tax provisions for multiple entities, including deferred tax analysesReview standalone and consolidated federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timelinessOversee indirect tax efforts to include sales & use tax and excise taxDesign and implement process or system solutions to address unmet tax needsLead tax planning efforts to include forecasting taxable income, NOL utilization, and impacts from regulatory changesAdminister intercompany tax sharing agreements by tracking the allocation, payment, and settlement of tax liabilities and benefits under a consolidated returnMaintain SOX-compliant controls and documentation for tax processesIdentify and implement process or workpaper improvements where possibleLiaise with tax consultants, auditors, and remote finance teams to support tax-related matters, reporting, and requestsImplement and utilize tax software to support direct and / or indirect tax needsSupervise and mentor junior tax staff, and develop their technical expertiseStay updated on tax legislative changesPerform other duties as necessary or as assignedQualificationsExperience with state and federal income tax provision and compliance requirementsKnowledge of IFRS tax accounting frameworkStrong work ethic, capable of self-monitoring, and being self-directedGood attention to detail, analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving skillsCapable of dealing with diverse groups of people, maintains an appreciation for different cultures, and patience when dealing with the unfamiliarAdvanced Microsoft Office skills (including Excel and PowerPoint)EDUCATION And / Or EXPERIENCEMinimum of 8 years of progressive tax experience in industry and / or “Big Four” accounting firmMinimum of 3 years in a supervisory roleBachelor’s degree in tax, accounting, or finance is required, MBA preferredLanguage SkillsExcellent verbal and written communication skills in EnglishLicences, Certificates, RegistrationsCertified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferredWork Environment & Physical DemandsThe work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters and must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
