This role is a key part of our inpatient behavioral health service line, providing high-quality psychiatric care to a diverse patient population while supporting expanded access to mental health services across the region.
This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, patient-centered environment with strong administrative and clinical support.
Practice Highlights
Hospital-based inpatient psychiatry role
Primary location: Prince William Medical Center
Remote coverage for Haymarket and Culpeper Medical Centers
EPIC electronic medical record system
Support from Behavioral Health Access Team, outpatient/IOP teams, and Emergency Department
Closed ICU model
Supportive leadership and administrative infrastructure

Schedule & Call
Full-time (1.0 FTE)
7 on / 7 off schedule
Day shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM (on-site rounding)
Call responsibilities:
Approximately five overnight calls per month
Includes one full weekend + three weekday calls
Weekend coverage required
Key Responsibilities
Provide inpatient psychiatric care on the Behavioral Health Inpatient (BHIP) unit
Manage an average daily census of 8-12 patients (on-site and remote)
Conduct psychiatric evaluations, treatment planning, and medication management
Provide consultative services within scope of practice as requested
Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes
Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives
Deliver care in accordance with all regulatory, accreditation, and clinical standards
Support continuity of care and patient needs during transitions
Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program
Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry
Active Virginia medical license (or eligibility)
Current DEA license
