Inpatient Psychiatrist

UVA Health is seeking a full-time Inpatient Psychiatrist (MD/DO) to join our Behavioral Health team at Prince William Medical Center. This role is a key part of our inpatient behavioral health service line, providing high-quality psychiatric care to a diverse patient population while supporting expanded access to mental health services across the region.This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, patient-centered environment with strong administrative and clinical support.Practice Highlights:Hospital-based inpatient psychiatry rolePrimary location: Prince William Medical CenterRemote coverage for Haymarket and Culpeper Medical CentersEPIC electronic medical record systemSupport from Behavioral Health Access Team, outpatient/IOP teams, and Emergency DepartmentClosed ICU modelSupportive leadership and administrative infrastructureStrong interdisciplinary support teamsOpportunity to impact access to behavioral health services across multiple hospitalsEstablished, respected health system with robust resourcesCollegial work environment with engaged leadershipSchedule & Call:Full-time (1.0 FTE)7 on / 7 off scheduleDay shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (on-site rounding)Call responsibilities:Approximately 5 overnight calls per monthIncludes 1 full weekend + 3 weekday callWeekend coverage requiredKey Responsibilities:Provide inpatient psychiatric care on the Behavioral Health Inpatient (BHIP) unitManage an average daily census of 8–12 patients (on-site and remote)Conduct psychiatric evaluations, treatment planning, and medication managementProvide consultative services within scope of practice as requestedCollaborate with multidisciplinary care teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomesParticipate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiativesDeliver care in accordance with all regulatory, accreditation, and clinical standardsSupport continuity of care and patient needs during transitionsQualifications:MD or DO from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an accredited psychiatry residency programBoard certified or board eligible in PsychiatryActive Virginia medical license (or eligibility)Current DEA licenseWe are equal opportunity employers.
