Job Description Controller -NonprofitKey ResponsibilitiesOversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash managementLead the month-end and year-end close processes , ensuring timely and accurate financial reportingPrepare monthly financial statements and reports for senior leadership and Board presentationDeliver financial analysis related to cash flow, revenue, admissions, and overall financial performanceSupervise and develop accounting staff; assign responsibilities, set goals, and evaluate performanceReview general ledger activity and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and complianceCollaborate with department heads to develop annual budgets and consolidate into a master budgetMonitor cash flow and prepare weekly cash flow projectionsEnsure accurate recording of all financial transactions, including revenue, expenses, and balance sheet activityServe as the primary liaison for external auditors and tax preparers; coordinate audits and required filingsMaintain compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards , including grant and donor reporting requirementsOversee grant financial management, including budgeting, tracking expenditures, and reportingPartner with Advancement to ensure accurate donation tracking and reportingCoordinate with Retail and CRM (Tessitura) teams to ensure proper revenue recognition and reconciliationEnsure payroll allocations are accurate in collaboration with HR (People & Culture)Maintain business registrations and compliance (e.g., SAM.gov, SunBiz, charitable registrations)Prepare required filings, including indirect cost rate proposals, tangible tax returns, and census reportingDevelop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure strong internal controls and business continuityQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting requiredCPA required7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organizationProven experience managing audits and supervising accounting teamsStrong knowledge of GAAP, FASB regulations, and nonprofit accounting practicesSkills & CompetenciesAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems (experience with MIP/Abila Fund Accounting and Microix preferred)Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and leadership abilitiesAbility to manage complex financial data and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentKnowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to nonprofit and grant reportingAbility to evaluate and implement AI-enabled tools within finance functions while ensuring dataCompany DescriptionOur expert team along with our strategic partnerships offer a collective experience in specialized staffing solutions and Process Improvement knowledge.
