DNV Energy Systems' Power Systems Advisory group has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Power System Study Engineer with a focus in EMT Studies, in its Renewables & Power Grids service area.Our team provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Senior Engineer must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth of the Power Systems Advisory business in North America. Our approach reflects the equity, respect, and diversity we wish to see in the world.This role ideally will be based at our DNV office in Dallas (TX), Austin (TX), Houston (TX), Oak Brook (IL), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Medford (MA), presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.The position may also be considered at other DNV offices within US.What You'll DoPerform Electro-magnetic Transient (EMT) Studies such as sub synchronous resonance (SSR), control interaction (SSCI), ferro-resonance, temporary overvoltage (TOV), switching overvoltage (SOV), transient recovery voltage (TRV), harmonic, energization etc.Develop/tune PSCAD models, perform PSCAD/PSSE model benchmarking analysisProduce and/or review quality technical reports and presentations for external Customers and for both internal and external stakeholdersTimely completion of projects assigned while meeting project quality and project budgetServe as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in EMT and special studiesServe as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for area related to transmission grid reliabilityDevelop or modify automation scripts to enhance the efficiency, speed and accuracy of technical simulationsActively attend (in person or remote) industry stakeholder meetingsStay up to date with assigned market changes in terms of NERC, FERC planning procedures, policy changes and developmentsContribute to the team's research and innovation activities in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the team's performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvementsCultivate new customer relationships, and assist in preparing responses to Requests for Proposals (RFP) and provide Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) for new tenders/bids/opportunitiesGenerous paid time off (vacation, sick days, company holidays, personal days)Multiple Medical and Dental benefit plans to choose from, Vision benefitsSpending accounts - FSA, Dependent Care, Commuter Benefits, company-seeded HSAEmployer-paid, therapist-led, virtual care services through Talkspace401(k) with company matchCompany provided life insurance, short-term, and long-term disability benefitsEducation reimbursement programFlexible work schedule with hybrid opportunitiesCharitable Matched Giving and Volunteer Rewards through our Impact ProgramVolunteer time off (VTO) paid by the companyCareer advancement opportunitiesBenefits vary based on position, tenure, location, and employee electionFor California, Washington, New York, Washington, D.C., Illinois, and Maryland: "DNV provides a reasonable range of compensation for this role. The actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. Information received relating to accommodation will be addressed confidentially.For more informationhttps://www.eeoc.gov/know-your-rights-workplace-discrimination-illegalWhat is RequiredBachelor's degree in electrical engineeringMinimum 5 + years of working experience at Utility, ISO/RTO, Consulting environment or renewable energy development companiesMinimum 5 + years of hands-on experiences with power-system tools such as PSCADIn-depth understanding of fundamentals of electric power systems, renewable energy and EMT studiesDirect work experience in transmission planning and development, generation, or load interconnection related analysesKnowledge of North American ISO/RTO grid interconnection and corresponding planning practices, system impact studies, NERC standards such as TPL/MOD/CIPWorking knowledge of automation scripts such as PythonStrong organizational, interpersonal (written & verbal) skills, problem solving and analytical skillsAbility to work in a dynamic team environmentExcellent oral and written communications skills in EnglishWe conduct pre-employment drug and background screeningWhat is PreferredActive PE LicenseGraduate level degree with emphasis on Electric Power SystemsHands on experience performing EMT StudiesDemonstrable hands-on experience with one or more power system analysis software packages including PSS/E, TSAT, TARA, ASPEN, PSLFKnowledge of ERCOT Electricity Market planning & interconnection practicesKnowledge of other Electricity Markets (such as PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISONE and CAISO) planning & interconnection practices
