This role is responsible for designing and developing exterior components, supporting product launch activities, and optimizing systems for performance, quality, and cost. The position operates within a fast-paced engineering environment focused on high-performance vehicle programs.Job DutiesLead or support design, packaging, release, and launch of exterior trim componentsDevelop exterior systems with emphasis on durability, weight optimization, and cost efficiencyCollaborate with design studios and engineering teams to integrate styling and functional requirementsApply CAD tools to create and refine component designs and assembliesSupport validation, testing, and issue resolution throughout development cyclesEnsure proper fit, finish, and manufacturability of exterior componentsContribute to the continuous improvement of engineering tools and development processesSkills & ExperienceRequired2+ years of experience in vehicle exterior trim design and developmentExperience with components such as valences, rocker panels, aero shields, wheelhouse liners, spoilers, or similar exterior systemsProficiency in CAD software (CATIA V5 or V6 preferred)Experience working with thermoplastics, thermoset materials, and Class A surface manufacturing processesUnderstanding of engineering analysis and simulation toolsExperience supporting product launch and production readiness activitiesBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fieldDesired5+ years of experience in exterior systems or plastics designExperience with Class A surfaces and painted component requirementsKnowledge of aero features, lighting integration, and exterior module designExperience with tooling design and manufacturing processesFamiliarity with gap & flush, fit & finish, and dimensional variation controlUnderstanding of thermal expansion and structural performance considerationsExperience with surface matching and paint quality requirementsAbout Blue Chip TalentBlue Chip Talent is an award-winning and woman-owned talent solutions provider based out of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
