Reporting into the Scientific Applications and Data Platforms organization, the Data/Full Stack Software Engineer will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and full-stack applications that enable scientists to access, analyze, and visualize multibillion-record scientific datasets. You will own the end-to-end delivery of data platforms and user-facing tools, ensuring robust, performant, and user-friendly solutions that support growing data volumes and cross-functional scientific teams.Responsibilities:Design, build, and optimize data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes for scientific data integration across 30+ heterogeneous data sourcesImplement and maintain lakehouse architectures on AWS (S3, Glue, Athena) supporting multibillion-record scientific datasetsDevelop federated query capabilities using Trino and other distributed query engines to enable unified data accessBuild data harmonization solutions to standardize compound, assay, and experimental data across modalitiesDesign and develop responsive, intuitive web applications using modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (React preferred; Vue or Angular acceptable)Build robust backend services and RESTful APIs using Python (FastAPI, Flask, Django) or Node.jsCreate data-rich user interfaces that enable scientists to search, filter, and visualize complex compound, assay, and experimental dataImplement full-stack features from database/query layer to UI, ensuring seamless end-to-end functionalityDevelop reusable component libraries and establish frontend architecture patternsIntegrate applications with federated data platforms, query engines (Trino, PostgreSQL, Snowflake/Iceberg), and scientific databasesBuild API integrations with external systems including Benchling, Spotfire, computational chemistry tools, and AI/ML model endpointsImplement authentication and authorization using enterprise identity management (SSO, LDAP, content-based access controls)Develop data visualization components for scientific datasets including dose-response curves, chemical structures, and analytical resultsOptimize database and query performance for PostgreSQL, Iceberg, and other platforms handling complex analytical workloadsImplement caching strategies, query optimization, and efficient data retrieval patterns for large datasetsMonitor and troubleshoot data pipeline and application performance; address bottlenecks proactivelyDesign scalable architectures that support growing data volumes and user basesImplement data validation, quality checks, monitoring frameworks, and comprehensive metadata/documentationEnsure compliance with data governance policies and regulatory requirementsImplement CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment; deploy and manage applications on AWS (EC2, ECS, Lambda, S3)Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practicesPartner with UX designers, scientists, and stakeholders across therapeutic areas to gather requirements, conduct user testing, and iteratively improve usabilityRequirements:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field3+ years of professional experience combining data engineering/data warehousing and full-stack web developmentProven track record of building production-grade data pipelines/platforms and delivering production web applications with high user engagementStrong proficiency in Python and SQL; solid JavaScript/TypeScript (ES6+)Expert-level experience with React (preferred), Vue, or Angular; deep understanding of HTML5, CSS3, responsive design, state management, and modern frontend toolingExperience building RESTful APIs with proper versioning, error handling, and documentation using FastAPI, Flask, Django, Express.js, or similarDeep expertise in relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle/MySQL) and modern data warehouses/lakehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, Iceberg)Hands-on experience with AWS services (S3, Glue, Athena, Lambda, RDS, EC2, ECS)Experience with distributed processing frameworks (Spark, Trino, Presto or similar) and building scalable ETL/ELT pipelinesExperience with scientific or business visualization tools (Spotfire, Power BI) and building custom data visualization componentsExperience with Git and collaborative development workflowsStrong problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex data and application issuesExcellent communication skills to translate technical concepts for scientific and non-technical stakeholdersAbility to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teamsAttention to detail and commitment to data quality, accuracy, performance, and user experienceDesired:Experience with lakehouse architectures and federated query engines (Trino/Presto) at scaleFamiliarity with scientific data domains (compounds, assays, experimental results) or life-sciences tools (Benchling, computational chemistry platforms)Experience implementing enterprise authentication (SSO, LDAP) and fine-grained access controlsPrior work in pharmaceutical, biotech, or scientific research environmentsExperience with AI/ML model endpoint integrationBest-In-Class-Benefits:We are in the people business;
