Campus Safety Officer (Part-Time)

Job SummaryLamar University is seeking dependable and professional Campus Safety Officers to support the safety and welfare of our students, faculty, staff, visitors, and property. Officers provide service, information, and assistance as needed, deter crime through a visible presence, assist victims, prepare reports, and observe and report safety issues. This role serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Clery Act.Essential Job FunctionsWhat You’ll Do – Position ResponsibilitiesPerform safety and security duties on Lamar University propertyPreserve safety by interceding to deter or prevent crimeInvestigate non-criminal incidents and detect security or safety issuesPrepare accurate written reports of incidents and non-criminal activitiesProvide credible testimony in court when requiredAssist and support victims of crimeProvide aid and assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitorsObserve and report potential hazards or safety issuesPerform other duties as assignedMinimum and Desired QualificationsEducation: High School Diploma or GEDMust be eligible to drive a University-owned or leased vehicleAbility to complete a six-month probationary period upon hireStrong written and oral communication skillsAbility to effectively use handcuffs, OC spray, radios, patrol vehicles, computers, and investigative and surveillance equipment.Knowledge of emergency medical procedures, first aid, and CPR techniquesStrong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide credible reports and testimonyMust be able to work any shift (days, nights, weekends, and holidays)Physical RequirementsAbility to drive, walk, run, stand, stoop, climb, crouch, push, pull, lift, grasp, and carry itemsMust have good physical condition, vision, hearing, and use of arms and legsAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsPreferred QualificationsEnrolled in classes at Lamar UniversityPrevious experience in a safety or security roleLamar University is An Equal Opportunity EmployerLamar University is proud to provide employment preference to veteran applicants in accordance with Texas 805 Government Code, Section 657.003.This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
