Position Overview:
As a Maintenance Mechanic with Total-Western, Inc., you will play an essential role in maintaining and repairing industrial machinery and equipment to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our clients’ facilities. Working across various industrial environments, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and performing preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment. Your technical expertise and commitment to safety will contribute to minimizing downtime and optimizing operational performance for our clients.
This field-based role is crucial to supporting the day-to-day operations of our clients’ facilities and ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Preventative Maintenance:
Perform routine inspections, lubrication, and cleaning of industrial machinery, ensuring equipment operates at peak efficiency.
Develop and adhere to maintenance schedules for equipment, identifying potential issues before they result in downtime.
Troubleshooting & Repair:
Diagnose mechanical issues with industrial equipment such as pumps, compressors, conveyors, and hydraulic systems, using technical manuals and diagnostic tools.
Perform corrective repairs on equipment, ensuring issues are resolved quickly and equipment is returned to operation safely and efficiently.
Collaborate with engineering teams to analyze chronic mechanical problems and recommend long-term solutions.
Machinery Installation & Upgrades:
Assist in the installation and setup of new machinery and equipment, ensuring all mechanical components are properly aligned, calibrated, and functioning according to manufacturer specifications.
Support modifications or upgrades to existing equipment to improve performance, safety, or operational efficiency.
Safety & Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols and ensure that mechanical maintenance work is performed in compliance with OSHA regulations, industry standards, and Total-Western’s safety policies.
Actively participate in safety meetings and hazard identification processes, contributing to a culture of safety on-site.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs, parts used, and time spent on tasks.
Provide detailed reports to supervisors and clients regarding equipment condition, repair needs, and any potential safety concerns.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with other mechanics, engineers, and operations personnel to ensure seamless coordination of maintenance activities and minimize disruption to facility operations.
Participate in training programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives to continually improve technical skills and safety awareness.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Completion of an accredited trade school or apprenticeship program in industrial maintenance, mechanics, or a related field is highly preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a maintenance mechanic in an industrial setting, preferably in industries such as oil & gas, petrochemical, manufacturing, or energy.
Proven experience with the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of a variety of industrial machinery and equipment.
Technical Expertise:
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, and rotating equipment.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, and mechanical diagrams.
Hands-on experience with diagnostic tools, such as vibration analyzers, infrared thermometers, and alignment tools.
Skills:
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve mechanical issues.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Commitment to safety and adherence to strict safety standards and protocols.
Preferred Experience:
Industry Experience:
Experience in industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, food processing, or renewable energy is preferred.
Certifications:
Certifications in welding, millwrighting, or ASME standards are advantageous.
Additional safety certifications (OSHA 10, OSHA 30) or equipment-specific certifications are preferred.
Software Knowledge:
Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for tracking maintenance activities and generating work orders is a plus.
Work Environment:
This is a field-based role, primarily working at client sites across Northern California. The Maintenance Mechanic will spend a significant amount of time on industrial job sites, where exposure to mechanical equipment, loud noise, and varying environmental conditions is common. The role requires the physical ability to lift heavy equipment, work at heights, and perform manual labor in challenging environments. Frequent travel between job sites and occasional overtime may be required to meet project deadlines or respond to urgent repair needs.
Reporting Structure:
The Maintenance Mechanic will report to the Maintenance Supervisor or Site Operations Manager, depending on the project. The role will involve frequent collaboration with other mechanics, site engineers, and client operations personnel.
Compensation & Benefits:
Hourly Rate: $28 - $33 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
