This vital role includes operating our school clinic, educating staff and families, supervising UW-Madison nursing students, and serving as the bridge between school, home, and community health professionals. One City also has a skilled medical doctor who serves as our Medical Advisor to support our school health team.What You'll DoLead Comprehensive Health Services:Develop policies, procedures, and standards for school health programs ensuring federal, state, and local complianceManage program resources efficiently and prepare health reports for leadership and health departmentsProvide first aid care and medically prescribed services to students and staffMaintain security of health supplies and ensure proper clinic operationsConduct health screenings, appraisals, and follow-up evaluations as requiredEducate and Collaborate:Provide staff development on health-related topics for school personnel and volunteersOrient staff on medical procedures for supporting medically involved students in classroomsServe as health resource person and liaison between school, families, and community agenciesCoordinate presentations by health professionals on pertinent care topicsSupervise University of Wisconsin-Madison nursing students during community education practicumsChampion Student Wellness:Correspond with parents regarding children's health needs and provide guidanceConduct home visits when appropriate to support student health outcomesRecord immunizations, health findings, and maintain comprehensive health dataFollow established procedures for suspected cases of child abuse and neglectNegotiate professional and medical services essential to school health programsWhat You BringEssential Qualifications:Bachelor's degree from an accredited nursing program with Wisconsin RN licenseMinimum 2 years nursing experience in community health, pediatrics, emergency care, or a physician's officeActive Basic Life Support BLS CPR/AED certification for Healthcare ProvidersValid Wisconsin Driver's License (or ability to obtain before start date)Considerable knowledge of medical disorders, treatments, and child developmentLeadership Qualities:Strong commitment to One City's mission and working with diverse populationsWorking knowledge of public health problems and treatment coordination proceduresUnderstanding of federal, state, and local laws affecting school health servicesExcellent judgment, communication, and creative problem-solving skillsPhysical ability to lift students and stand for extended periods as neededExceptional Benefits & CompensationFull-Time Package:Competitive salary reflecting education and experienceExtended breaks (equivalent to 3 months off annually)9 PTO days plus holidays, spring break, and winter breakProfessional development funding and opportunitiesPart-Time Package:Competitive salary reflecting education and experienceHolidays, spring break, and winter break off with limited PTOProfessional development funding and opportunitiesUnique Staff Benefits:On-campus childcare center with subsidized tuition for staffHome ownership support through Own-It Program ($19,000 down payment grants available)Collaboration with UW-Madison nursing program and research partnershipsAbout One City SchoolsOur Mission: To seed a new model of public education ensuring children are on track to succeed from birth through high school graduation.Our Impact:Both schools "Exceeded Expectations" on 2024 state report cardsElementary: outpaced 87% of Wisconsin public elementary schoolsMiddle School: outpaced 94% of Wisconsin public middle schools94% of preschoolers test kindergarten-readyWhy One City?
