Details Float pool position covering ICU, PCU, and Med-Surg units — candidates must be comfortable working all three 703-bed acute care Magnet-designated teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric) with advanced specialty care and a dedicated children's hospital Certified Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center ICU patient ratio: 2:1 | PCU patient ratio: 5:1 | MS patient ratio: 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1) Day shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM; 4x12 schedule available by request Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, with potential to float 2–3 times per shift Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block Must work one holiday per 13-week contract Epic EMR experience required Requirements Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS Minimum 2 years of ICU experience from a large Level I or Level II trauma facility Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, arterial line management, central line care/management, and blood product administration Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management, ventilated patient care, and suctioning (ETT and NT) Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and titrating cardiac drips Experience responding to emergencies via Rapid Response and Code teams Capable of managing continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, cardiac/vasoactive drip titration, and IV insulin protocols Epic EMR experience required PDF copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration Two professional references required for consideration Additional Information Candidate must be comfortable working across ICU, PCU, and MS units and have experience with ratios of at least 1:5 All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application First-time travelers are welcome to apply Local candidates are accepted American Traveler Job ID P-677772.
