Fleet Technician
General DescriptionJoin our team as a Fleet Technician and put your mechanical expertise to work on a wide variety of automotive, fleet, and construction equipment that keeps the City of Madison moving.Fleet Technicians perform highly skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of all types of automotive/fleet and construction equipment within the Fleet Service Division. The work is characterized by the high degree of complexity, independence, and technical discretion and may involve providing leadership and mechanical expertise to other workers. Given the wide range of equipment this position will work on, the initial training period will introduce you to equipment unique to the City of Madison. Fleet Technicians assigned to the second shift receive a $3.00 per hour shift differential for regularly scheduled hours worked from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.Normal shifts are Monday through Friday, with hours from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm (second shift) or 7:30 am to 3:30 pm (first shift).Employees must maintain an overtime acceptance rate of at least 50%.The current recruitment is to fill one (1) vacant position. This is a second shift position, with the potential to move to first shift. The selected candidate will complete a two-to-three month training period on the first shift at our Nakoosa Trail site before moving to a second shift schedule.This recruitment will create an eligible list that will be used to fill additional Fleet Technician vacancies that may arise in the next three (3) months.Minimum QualificationsThree (3) years of experience in the skilled repair of a variety of automotive equipment or heavy equipment; ANDCoursework in automotive mechanics or heavy equipment repair.-OR-Completion of an accredited automotive apprenticeship program; ANDTwo (2) years of experience equivalent to that gained as an Automotive Maintenance Worker for the City of Madison.Equivalent combinations of experience, education, and training will be considered.
