Job DetailsDescriptionPosition SummaryThe Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing complex account reconciliations, supporting month‑end and year‑end close processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls. This role plays a key part in financial reporting, audit support, and process improvement initiatives within the finance function.Major Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform general accounting functions, including preparation of journal entries, and reconciliations for general ledger, balance sheet, and income statement accountsPrepare fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and reconciliationSupport month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met and financial data is accurate and completeEnsure all financial transactions are properly recorded in the general ledger in accordance with GAAPAssist with annual external audits, including preparation of supporting schedules and workpapersAssist with tax, regulatory reporting, and compliance requirements as neededIdentify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiencyMaintain and document accounting procedures and internal controlsCollaborate cross‑functionally with finance, payroll, operations, and external partnersParticipate in and support special accounting projects as assignedPosition RequirementsAttention to detail with strong analytical and problem‑solving skillsStrong understanding of accounting concepts and financial reporting principlesAccountability for accurate, timely, and high‑quality workExcellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholdersStrong interpersonal skills, including the ability to resolve issues and assertively communicate when neededAbility to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with discretionAdaptable and flexible; able to adjust priorities as business needs changeAbility to work with a sense of urgency and consistently meet deadlinesEducation And ExperienceBachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Accounting requiredMinimum of 2 years of accounting experiencePublic accounting experience a plusStrong knowledge of GAAPProficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OutlookExperience with ERP or accounting software (e.g., Eclipse, Oracle, Great Plains, Peachtree, or similar systems)Granite City offers competitive wages, great benefits including, medical, dental, vision, life, STD/LTD, 401k, vacation, holiday, sick and more!
