They perform assessments, plan and coordinate care, monitor patient responses, and educate patients and families on procedures and post-procedure expectations. Radiology nurses work collaboratively with physicians and healthcare teams, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and effective care throughout the diagnostic process.Essential Work Functions:Complete nursing assessment of patients in the Radiology department and document appropriately into patient recordCollaborate with physicians and other healthcare team members to plan and coordinate patient care Monitor patients' responses to throughout procedures and report outcomes Administer medications as ordered with appropriate documentationInitiate intravenous access lines, monitor vital signs and oxygen saturation during proceduresAdminister special dyes/contrast mediums into patientsAdminister barium enemas/solutions prior to proceduresAdminister analgesia and sedation as ordered by physiciansPractice proper radiation protectionReassess patients after their procedure and provide care until they are ready to be dischargedMaintain cleanliness of rooms and adequate stock of suppliesTransport patients as needed ensuring their safety and comfortFollow hospital safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe environmentPerform other duties as assigned within the scope of radiology nursing practiceRequired Essential Skills:Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skillsThe ability to read, write, & communicate in the English language is requiredAbility to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skillsPhysical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bendingInterpersonal Skills - To work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalismTechnical/Motor Skills - Ability to grasp, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment. Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally as well as working without assistance from other personnel.
