Engineering Technician Level 1
OverviewA leading organization is seeking an Engineering Technician to support hands on electrical testing activities in a high current laboratory environment. This role is based onsite in Milwaukee, WI and reports to the Test Engineering Team Lead. The Engineering Technician plays a critical role in building, configuring, and testing Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and switchgear, supporting UL and IEC compliance testing while maintaining the highest standards of safety, documentation, and lab organization.ResponsibilitiesBuild and configure Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and switchgear test samples based on engineering drawings and specificationsAssemble electrical and mechanical components for standard and custom test configurationsPrepare and support high current, high power electrical test setupsConduct electrical compliance testing in accordance with:UL 845UL 891IEC 61439 1IEC 61439 2Perform common electrical tests, including:Short circuit testingArc flash testingTemperature rise testingDielectric (hi pot) testingStrictly follow electrical safety and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) proceduresDocument test setups, procedures, results, anomalies, and deviations in formal test recordsCapture and maintain traceability and compliance documentationCollaborate closely with development engineers and high current lab engineers during complex testingProvide hands on support for failure investigations and root cause analysisCommunicate test status, issues, and findings to engineering stakeholdersMaintain a clean, organized, and audit ready lab environment using 5S principlesSupport a strong culture of safety in high energy testing environmentsRequired QualificationsHands on experience with:Electrical and mechanical assemblyPower and control wiringTest instrumentation and laboratory equipmentAbility to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawingsStrong mechanical aptitude and hands on troubleshooting skillsDemonstrated understanding of:Electrical safety practicesLockout/Tagout (LOTO) proceduresSafe work practices for high energy electrical systemsFamiliarity with 5S principles and basic Six Sigma conceptsPreferred QualificationsExperience testing MCCs, switchgear, or industrial power productsFamiliarity with UL and IEC compliance testing standards
